Hi Everyone,

This is my first post and im yet to start using cumulus.
I am awaiting the delivery of my vantage pro2 wireless and in the mean time preparing for it.
I am wanting to transmit my weather ovwer the net 24/7 but dont want my main PC running using all that power so im looking at a small low cost mini PC

Would cumulus run on a Via C3 700Mhz with just 256Mb ram running win XP ?

I searched everyewhere but could not find min specs other than the OS.

Cheers,
Leigh.

I haven't specified any minimum requirements because I have no idea how to determine them . Cumulus 1 doesn't use many resources, typically around 20MB memory, and doesn't require a great deal of processing power. I wouldn't have thought you'd have any problems with your proposed system.

You will be able to run Cumulus on that, mine wasnt much higher when i started, I have just upgraded my ram tho to 756mb because of running yawcam as well for the weather webcam.

If your using the computer PURELY for cumulus, remember to stop all other useless apps starting up with windows tho, such as messenger etc, if your knowledge is good, go into MSCONFIG and just disable the useless stuff so your running the very basics, disable the screensaver in desktop properties, anything to reduce CPU useage

Im running Win2k at VIA Epia 800Mhz with 125MB DDR for almost 5 years, and its used for weather software only.
Also webserver for little php scripts i use... work with no problem.

I'm running Cumulus on a Samsung NC10 netbook successfully. I also run WeatherLink and VPLive via VirtualVP at the same time and the PC copes fine.

You should have no problems.

A new thread has prompted me to think of an actual minimum requirement: A display of at least 1024x768. It will work on displays smaller than this, but it's less than perfect (some text may get hidden). High DPI settings can cause similar problems.

I was running Cumulus 1 for long time in a very old Pentium II with 256MB RAM, Windows XP, a Boltek StormTracker PCI card (running NexStorm also) and Yawcam.

BTW, This PC delays more than 10 minutes to be fully operational.

This should be the minimum requirements

I did think of something else: if you tend to leave Cumulus not running for long periods, so it has a lot of data to download from the station's logger, then it can take quite a long time to download and process the data on a low-powered system. I need to look into turning off the display updating to see if I can speed the process up.
