The features I supply are just simple web tags. I wouldn't even know where to begin doing the amazing things with them that some people have done. I use the standard pages because that's what the standard pages are - my web site.

With all your skills I'm surprised you haven't expanded on your standard pages. It sounds like you haven't ventured into PHP etc. I suppose there are only so many hours in a day.

That's the reason. I know some PHP, some JavaScript etc, but I simply don't have time to do anything other than develop and (in particular) support Cumulus.

Surely the point is that the Cumulus templates more or less work "out of the box" - the moment you add any kind of code, wether it be server side (php, perl, asp, etc) or client side (Javascript, various 'levels' of css, html. VB, etc.) you then lose the common denominator.

And when you want to produce the latest flavour of 'apps' or web tv, or whatever next .....

That's right; the intention is that the supplied pages will work anywhere and without any understanding by the user. The gauges page is a bit of an aberration in that respect, it was really just an experiment and a collection of things thrown together.

Beteljuice, my request for help was not directed at Steve. It was to those who have added the flashing light to their web pages. I certainly dont expect him to know everything about everything. ;)

Hi Ray,

On my homepage and records pages, I use some javascript combined with a scrolling marque that only displays when a record is broken.

This is a small piece of the code I use (Max and Min temp records). To see it in action, cut and paste it into an online html editor like http://www.htmlinstant.com/2010/11/live ... ditor.html and change the <#tempH> tag to a value above 36.9 and <#tempL> to a value below 1.9 and both records will display. Change one value and one will display. I hope it helps.

<font color="red"><marquee behavior="scroll" direction="left" width="812" bgcolor="black" scrollamount="6" style="font-family:arial; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold; font-size: 15pt">
<script type="text/javascript">
var hightemp = "<#tempH>";
if (hightemp>36.9)
document.write('New High Temperature record - <#tempH><#tempunit> at <#TtempH format="h:nn am/pm"> nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;')
var lowtemp = "<#tempL>";
if (lowtemp<1.9)
document.write('New Minimum Temperature record - <#tempL><#tempunit> at <#TtempL format="h:nn am/pm">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;');
</script>
</marquee></font>

Hi Dan,

Thanks very much for your help. It's a bit late here now but I'll try it over the weekend.

Ideally I'd like to hide the lights until a record is broken. Could some kind soul either describe how to do it or supply a couple of gifs please? I copied the code from an earlier message in this thread but I can't access any of the sites involved to see how they designed theirs.
Ray, I hid my light when no new record exists by creating a transparent image in an image editor (Gimp). In other words, the off light is an image that no one can see as it is transparent. I've attached a copy of that image (record_0.gif) and also the flashing light image (record_1.gif) I use when a record is set. I also control the size of the image on the webpage using <img src="images/record_0.gif" width="15"> as the size of the image without using the width="n" is a bit ugly in my opinion.

If you need more help, just yell my way!

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for attaching those files. I looked at your website when I was trying to work out what to do but viewing the page source didn't give me any clues as to how you setup your lights.

The width option is very useful. I hadn't used that on mine.

********* LATER **************

I've now modified my code and added your GIFs after renaming them. I now have my records page looking the same as before this new feature was added. All I need now is some extreme weather. A new high temp would be nice in another disappointing summer. Thanks Bob! :clap:

A while ago when I first dabled into creating a New record light, there were a few comments and thoughts about how it worked. It felt like we didn't want to clear the alarm status on Cumulus just so that we could see the light flash on our website :lol: . But it's true, we want it to be visable that an alarm has triggered, but once you reset it there was no sign of the alarm. Booo. Of course you could go to the records page and scour the dates, however, I've come up with a solution of sorts. On the home page, I too have a light to alert people that an alarm is active, but even if I reset it, it also shows the latest date that the alarm triggered. So even if someone missed seeing the light, they can see how long ago it was! They then can figure if they have missed one since the last visit. I thought it was nifty. Did anyone come up with it before me? Probably.....and did it better :lol:
Oh Bob, your flashing light was the same as the one I borrowed, but your .gif conversion was better (if not a bit faster, mine was once a second), so I swaped mine for yours. Cheers.

Michael,

I have to agree about the record light being reset once you view the record in Cumulus. However, I tend not to look at my Console unless something goes wrong with it - I always use my website.

Why are you talking about the console? Do you mean Cumulus? Anyway, I tend to only let the alarm go for a few days, no longer than a week and reset it on Cumulus. At least then I will have a reminder on the main page of when that last alarm event triggered, even if a light wasn't flashing.

Oops! My mistake :oops:
