Hey All,

I have managed to cobble together a windows gadget for the Australian weather radars. You can find it here: http://bit.ly/hNcevv . If you are feeling generous or think it's crap don't forget to rate it!

Cheers

Matt

edit: Instead of attaching new version to the end of the thread I will pop them here and dump a message at the end of the thread. The gadgets are in the zip files, no need to rename. If you are Javascript savy please disect them and tell me whats wrong as I am using these (and you!) as Guinea Pigs to learn Javascript.

What program do you need to run it? My computer doesn't recognise the file extention (.gadget)

Hello again Matt

I've noticed that when the gadget starts/restarts it always defaults to the first radar location in the list (ie Albany 512km) is it possible for the gadget to remember which location you set it to?

All the best

Ian

Hi Ian,

If you close the gadget with the X in the corner Windows deletes the settings saved for the gadget. On the other hand if it's doing that when you restart your computer, that's a problem and I will look into it. The reason it defaults to Albany is because that's the radar I use the most, and it's easier to set a default setting than to get the program to ask you which one you want if there is no saved setting.

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt

Just checked on a computer restart and it does remember the settings (Perth 256km in my case, which covers Bunbury) As you say, if you close it with the 'X' it reverts to Albany.

So it works exactly as you have said.

All the best from just up the coast

Ian

Oh good, you had me worried! It's been a bugger to debug (my ADSL is really flakey at the moment) so I wouldn't be surprised if there are a couple of glitches.

Hey Matt, nice work. Now if you could make one that works with weatherzone, you could have 12 hours of radar....

Thanks all! I know there are a couple of quirks with it, I will be tweaking it over the next couple of weeks time (and knowledge) permitting. I had a feature request to add the observations to it as well. This isn't a problem, but the big size will have to be about 50% larger (512px square) to make them readable. Will this be too big do you think? I have a prototype of this size with the observations almost ready so I will put it up for you too look and let me know.

gliderguider I just had a quick look at Weatherzone's radar page and they have gone out of their way to make sure people don't :( . The other problem, which I believe I am OK with the BOM, is copyright. I don't want to go treading on peoples toes.

edit: Attached bigger one with observations (the gadget is in the zip, no need to rename).

editt: added two more, different sizes. opinions please :)
