hi all
We just had a real dumping of rain, im a bit puzzled by the records (see attached)
It states 12.3mm in the last hr but a rain rate of 82m/hr
By the amount of rain... flooding everywhere id have to say the amount was more to the 80mm
do i have a setting wrong?
Thanks

Did I beat Steve?......anyway, it's in the FAQ here:
http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#How_is ... culated.3F
I would also suggest getting a manual rain gauge to calibrate it. I found my Wh1081 was originally 9% under reading. Also, the rain gauge is prone to splash out. I would suggest building up the sides (a few cm). If you want to get fancy (I did) get a funnel with about a 260 cm area (165 cm2 is 3 times the original, but read on) to feed into the gauge (and seal it). Make a calibration in Cumulus to multiply your readings by 0.33 (makes each tip read from 0.3mm to 0.1mm) and keep cutting the top off the funnel until it matches what you get in the manual rain gauge.
Everyone else (including me) had originally just made the funnel 3 times bigger (165cm2), or around about, then made adjustments in the Calibration setting (thanks Steve!

) till it matched what the manual rain gauge gets. The problem you get with this is that each tip will read an uneven/unusaul amount, like let's say, 0.111mm. I think it would be much nicer if the readings were like .099mm (x 0.33) or .15mm (x 0.5).

By the way Mark, where are you? Could you please put your approximate location into your profile, thanks.
Also, I notice you're not getting much wind over the last two days, perhaps do as I did, and change your display settings for your wind gauge range. Yours is up to 50kmph, with wind maxing out at 9.7 (this is low hey?). I put mine at 20kmph, so that whatever little wind I have it makes it look more impressive

, but don't worry, if your wind readings go higher, the gauge doubles (and go to 40kmph, and so on).
