Data Not Downloading - from bad to worse

Post by johnash »

Hi

I have read as much as I can find on this subject and tried all suggestions, I think.

Yesterday evening, Cumulus and my WH1090 WS were talking. This morning they weren't (I know it's a cold, miserable morning here in Spain, but that's no excuse).

When I ran Cumulus this morning, the "Download Window" did nothing and Cumulus hung.

It's not the USB connection as Easyweather is still seeing the station and downloading data quite happily.

Windows (7) had updated itself this morning so I did a system restore back to the pre-update state in case it was that. But no difference.

I tried resetting the memory of the station and this has made no difference either. I then installed the latest (Beta) version of Cumulus (in a different directory, the C:\ root directory) and this ran OK and downloaded data from the station but, of course, I can no longer access 14 months' worth of data. I copied across the "data" directory from my old installation (having made a safe copy the existing data directory) and Cumulus beta still ran but the only previous data it could see were temperature averages and daily rainfall rates.

I have now got into a total pickle. I uninstalled the new version and went back to the old installation but that will not now run. The main window appears briefly but then it closes.

Is there a way I can again install the new version of Cumulus, getting it to see all my old data? I am getting a little desperate now!

(Attached is the bug report from when the original Cumulus was running but not downloading data.)

Thanks
John

The crash in 1.8.8 is something to do with the old debug window which no longer exists in later versions of Cumulus. I'm afraid I have no way of knowing what the problem is, and I can't support very old versions of Cumulus.

The easiest way to upgrade is to simply install into the same folder (having taken a backup). Unfortunately though, you're running Windows 7 and have installed under Program Files. So Windows has probably hidden your data away (see the relevant FAQ). So installing to C:\Cumulus and copying the data folder is probably the best approach and resolves your Windows 7 problem at the same time. Are you sure that you have actually copied the correct data folder? What files are in it?

Of course! Thank you. When I installed Windows 7 over whatever was before I had no idea it was going to hide my data files! Thanks.

I now am left with a little problem with invalid pressure readings. I don't know what is going on but am getting the error "Ignoring dubious relative pressure reading, using offset of zero instead. Check your relative pressure setting on your console". I have looked at the settings in Easyweather which, I assume, sets up the "console", and they didn't make sense either. And I can't seem to change them to anything sensible.

Update on that. It would seem Easyweather has got corrupted. I have uninstalled and done a clean install and I can now set the relative pressure sensibly.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. But it's still wet, cold and windy here in SE Spain!

If it helps (if you didn't already know), don't have EW and Cumulus open at the same time. I got EW displaying weird data (like you mentioned).

Yes thanks. I did know that but sometimes forget.

I think something had got corrupted between Easyweather and the station. Though I had reset the memory a couple of days ago it was showing "full". Not sure how, but I have now cleared the problem and the latest (beta) version of Cumulus is ticking away nicely recording all the rain we're getting here. Whatever happened to the blue skies of a Spanish Winter that we used to get? It's more and more like English Winter weather these days, though not quite as cold.
