You can now monitor your cumulus weather station data via an iphone app.
If you have an iphone, simply search for "unitehomedevices" .

Ref : http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/unitehom ... d420226539

For this to work you need to get a free account from http://www.unitehomedevices.com .

Interesting idea -- not really for the Cumulus aspect as there are other ways to get that, but more from the home control point of view.

I take it I would need a PC turned on all the time with that wee blue dongle thing connected, and with Internet access. The website is a bit confusing!

Hi Daj,
The blue USB dongle is there for controlling electrical devices. It allows you turn your tv, lights ,electric shaver, radio, e.t.c on and off via the web. It is independent of the cumulus weather stations.

In terms of the website being confusing, I am working on prodiving a more concised information.
In general, we provide assess to three services.

1. Monitoring your weather station data - you don't need to buy any hardware from us to achieve this. All you need is an account with us ( free ), and then download a monitoring program that will be running on your PC.

2. Monitoring your energy usage - for this you need the currentcost display ( http://www.currentcost.com/software-united.html )

3. Controlling your electrical devices - for this you need the tellstick USB dongle.

All three services can be accessed via our iphone app.

Hopefully the above information makes it clearer.

We are currently working on making the explanation on the website clearer.

Thanks again for your honest feedback.

Will it control existing X10 devices?

Thanks for the reply -- home automation interests me but I'm scared. LOL There seems so much out there.

Yes, the website needs some work, content and backend. On my Mac using FireFoox, Chrome or Safari the index page reloads every second or so! A quick look at your HTML and you have a <META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT=3600> in the header section. Putting aside my dislike for meta refresh, one does wonder why your site even needs it on the site. (The 3600 should be in " " at the very least)

Anyway, I am going off-topic ;)

Synewave,
No it does not control X10 devices.
The list of switches and modules that it controls can be found at
https://www.unitehomedevices.com/cgi-bi ... s&mobile=0

Daj,
Thanks again for your feedback on the website. An updated version of the site is coming very soon.
Home automation is not scary. You just need to automate one at a time. For example, you can buy one switch for about £10 on ebay, and the tellstick for £55. With these 2 devices, you can control when your tv comes on or off. The more switches you buy over time, the more devices you can control.

If you need guidance on entering the non-scary world of home automation, feel free to email me at admin@unitehomedevices.com

OK, very off-topic, but are you planning to support X10 in the future? Most of my lighting is home-automation controlled using X10 (which seem very popular) and I don't want to re-invest.

Hi,
Tellstick supports the X10.
Hence our system should work with your current set up.
Email me at admin@unitehomedevices.com, and lets talk further.
