No one thought that over 5 months after the magnitude 7.1 quake that another huge one would occur.

Just when things had finally begun to quieten down, this devastating quake strikes. 65 confirmed dead so far :( A very very sad day for NZ!

Oh Jesus, that is said news indeed! prayers to all..

On a related note, I had a couple of customers in the shop where I work yesterday from Australia, on the West side somewhere, I was talking to them about the recent events there, the fires apparently were stopped 2k from there house. These events really make me think that i have NO right whatsoever to moan about our weather etc.

Big prayers from this side of the planet anyways!

My son is in Christchurch and works at the University. He says he was on the 5th floor and the building was really moving around. He's fine though along with his girlfriend.

Internet seems to a bit screwed today....very intermittent. Not sure if it is Quake related but probably is.

It's just horrifying and the pictures leave me stunned. Our thoughts and hopes are with the people there.
When the weather is the focus of the topic, it means we have to start conversations with something else.

Inevitable, but so sad to see the death toll still rising, we are so lucky here in the UK, we don't really get any weather extremes to speak of, and neither do we get any real geological events such as this.

My thoughts are still with those families who have lost loved ones, and those affected by this, and from an emergency services point of view, my praise to those involved in the recovery of the victims!

Thank you all for your support. While I don't live in the city, I do work there everyday. The devastation will mean our city will never be the same again. However we all must look on the positive side and make the best of what we have left.
We are very lucky not to have suffered like the unfortunate people in Japan.
We all, I'm sure, have donated to help with an overseas disaster never expecting to one day need help yourself.
The support from the rest of New Zealand and the World has been very humbling for which all those affected are truly grateful
The city must now pick itself up and carry on.

So invite all of you, if you have the opportunity to visit our beautiful country and city

Thank you
Mike
