File upload not working

After being one of the early users I always set up my web site non standard files via an FTP loader as I could never get the Cumulus one to work for me. Now, 2 years plus down the line I want to join Awekas and need to upload the template via Cumulus processing. I still can't get it to load a file. All of my web updates of standard files work through the web update menu. In the files menu I am locating the file by the browser so the local path must be right. I am copying and pasting the filename into the remote file so the name must be right. The password, user name, pathway must be right as the webupdates wouldn't work. I have tried as many variations of the pathway on the remote side that I can think of.They also work fine with my FTP loader. It's a complete mystery why I've never been able to get this feature to work. It's probably something stupid as I am not a novice and everything else is not a problem.
Any suggestions?
Dave

Turn on ftp logging and see what the log file shows.

Do you upload a realtime.txt file, using the standard Cumulus method? The mechanism Cumulus uses for that is exactly the same as it uses for 'extra' files; i.e. it uses a full path name rather than changing directory. If realtime.txt upload works, then extra file uploads should work by prefixing the remote file name with whatever you have configured as the ftp directory in Cumulus.

Hi Steve. Yes realtime.txt is there ok and has current time and data in it. But on reflectionI probably loaded that up manually as well. So I've deleted it and it's not reloading automatically with a web update but all the other html files do. I have Site as www.laindonweather.co.uk and public_html as directory in the ftp settings.
If I turn off upload std files when I do web update I see "Logging into www.laindonweather.co.uk, then changing directory to public_html which is where it should reside so it must be finding the directory. If std files ticked then you see the directory changes and the files going in on web update. Also I can see the pathway for local and remote for this file in the .config file. It must be a pathway thing but it looks ok to me. I've turned on ftp logging. I've forgotten where it puts the log file though?
Thanks,
Dave

Ok - the realtime.txt file is uploading automatically - I hadn't waited long enough.

The progress window isn't aware of any errors so isn't a reliable guide to what's actually happened.

What file is that? Is it something to do with your ftp loader?

In the Cumulus installation folder.

It's hard to see how that could work but not your extra files, if you've used the same path. As well as the ftp log, can you also upload the [FTP site] section of your cumulus.ini file? Remove your user and password.

You have your ftp directory configured thus:

Directory=public_html

But for some reason you are using a different directory/path for your 'extra' file:

ExtraRemote0=www.laindonweather.co.uk/public_html/awekas_wl

I would suggest that if realtime.txt is working, then you need to use the same path for your extra file, i.e.

ExtraRemote0=public_html/awekas_wl

As I said Steve, I've tried pretty much every pathway configuration for the extra remote file. But now you've clarified that I'll try that path again because there was a short down of the server yesterday and sod's law it was when i tried that pathway!

Great stuff! Looks ok and is populated with values. Thanks for your help and nice to know I wasn't going mad - you know what these things are like when you change a lot of things at once and there was a different fault in the background - i.e the server being down for a few minutes!

A couple of observations: You have your realtime interval set to 3 seconds (probably the default at one time). That's possibly too often for a Fine Offset station, but it's up to you of course. Also, you have the Awekas file uploading as a realtime file. I believe Awekas only checks the file every few minutes (10 minutes?), so you may want it to be done at the 'standard' (non-realtime) interval instead.

The remote filename for Awekas should be also awekas_wl.htm http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/AWEKAS

Is that actually true? You have to give Awekas the full path and file name, so could it not actually be called anything you want?

Hmm I've looked up they do not say it must be awekas_wl.htm I was leaded by the Wiki , probably you're right that it doesn't matter how you name the remote file , you've to inform only where the data is but it doesn't harm to name it awekas_wl.htm ;)

Thanks - it's ok I'd already renamed it .htm anyway to be on the safe side and it's uploading fine. Realtime - yes I ticked everything in the end just in case! As you can see I have the latest version now after a long stable period so I will go through the settings and put a few right. It's still going great though, so thanks again,
Dave
