It seems to work for everyone else who has tried it, so I can only think that your spikes are not the ones usually observed. The value has to change in one jump between two successive readings.

I think it always best to show the file extensions in Explorer, then you don't get errors such as saving the file as xxxx.ini.txt - where the .txt would not display in Explorer.

Try a capacitor from the fence to ground to drain those spikes. You could probably go to an auto parts store or junkyard and ask for a condenser. These are attached to distributors at the points (remember them?) to reduce RF interference in the radio.

Thanks for all the hints.

I have since moved the metal mast from the metal fence post (with electric wire atop), to a wooden structure about 5 meters from the fence, and interference seems to stopped for the most part. Still get an occassional spike.

I tried a ferrite ring on the insulated feed to the fence section near the weather station sensors/transmitter but couldn't say if there was any improvement or not. So I took some ordinary insulated stranded wire and wound that six or seven times through the ferrite ring and connected that in series with the fence. There does now seem to be an improvement. I'm now only getting the occasional spike - maybe one or two a day. The electric fence still gives a healthy kick as I accidentally found out

You're meant to use a piece of grass to see if the fence is powered.....preferably wearing wellies.
Males have a different way of testing electric fences but that's another story.
