In case anyone hasn't seen this, and is interested, there is a good chance of Auroral activity visible from high northern latitudes over the next day or two.

Re: Aurora possibility
There's an article on the BBC news site too about it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12493980 Let's hope the Internet survives!

I don't think we'll see anything down here at about 50 degrees N

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.

Yes indeed! I don't think we'll even see that - too much cloud!

When the weather is the focus of the topic, it means we have to start conversations with something else.

Re: Aurora possibility
For southern hemisphere observers, see http://www.ips.gov.au/Geophysical
Chances are you may see something if you're in Hobart. The magnetometer traces from Hobart and Casey (Antarctica) are just starting to twitch.
DN
Added later: Minor magnetic storm in progress ~06:15 UT: see Hobart magnetogram: http://www.ips.gov.au/Geophysical/1/1/6
And more: from the IPS Aurora alert email: GEOMAGNETIC STORM IN PROGRESS. AURORA MAY BE OBSERVED
DURING LOCAL NIGHT TIME HOURS IN GOOD OBSERVING CONDITIONS
AT HIGH LATITUDES.
