High 24 hr rainfall error on console

Good morning!
Noticed that it had rained overnight so idly checked console only to discover a 24hr reading of 29.7mm displayed. Looking outside it is clear that nowhere near this amount of rain has fallen [the bird bath is still half empty :? ].
Thought I'd check what was going on by connecting console to Cumulus ... as I usually do every day ... it showed a current rainfall for today of 0.3mm and for yesterday of 0.6mm ... as I would expect, having looked outside!
Have you any suggestions as to how I can correct this error without loosing data? Couldn't find a relevant topic on the site.
This is the first problem I've encountered since setting up, otherwise I've been delighted with the Maplin station ... and thrilled with the cumulus software & site. Just need to address over-high max temps when the sun shines .... solar shield I think  .
Yours hopefully,
GOURVILLE

Hi again ... decided to reset rainfall to zero on console as rainfall readings on Cumulus are up-to-date & we are due more rain today. Fingers crossed

Thanks Paul - I'm hoping that by resetting the console now [while disconnected] Cumulus will not have seen the erroneous figure. However, if it has already registered the Wiki page gives the info I need. Thanks for finding that for me. I'll have to look more carefully in future  .
Best wishes, Margaret

If the console has already been connected, Cumulus would have picked it up. But if you haven't connected it since spotting the reading on the console, then yes a reset should clear it - but then you will lose all the other valid data stored in the console since it was last 'connected' to Cumulus. If it were me, I'd just let Cumulus get the data then edit it.

It's possible that Cumulus would never have seen the erroneous figure, because of the way that it only relies on the counter from the sensor itself, and doesn't use any of the console figures. This can often work the other way around (erroneous figure in Cumulus but not on console), which puzzles some people!

 Correct! Happily Cumulus didn't recognise the spurious figure. We've had another 1.2 mm of rain since I reset the rainfall to zero. Cumulus correctly recognised the full day's rainfall as 1.5mm. Such a clever program. Many thanks to you both.
