Nearly there - but not quite!

Post by dionaea »

Hi all,
Over the last few weeks I have been setting up my website for my WH1080/Watson8681 & after several false starts & a great deal of help by Dave & Steve it is running well. I have had lots of problens getting it to upload both manually & automatically & also a lack of stability when it was up & running. Yesterday I did both debug logs & ftp logs & it came up with 'cannot find directory' - after various tries I decided to remove what I thought was my root Directory /thorpeweather & just left in / which had been appearing in my ftp uploader & everything started working & has done so ever since. I have a question though - My web uploads are done on my desktop running in XP & I think that half my problems have been due to the fact that what I have been seeing on my desktop is not what is on the web.I have a laptop running Vista & if I bring up my web page on that it is fine. See
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/thorpeweather

It has a picture - the gauges all show & all seems fine. My desktop does not show the picture or the gauges although they have been showing in the past. Am I doing something wrong here. Any ideas? Am re-doing the photo gallery so please ignore!

Cheers,
Chris

Looks OK from here other than no realtime gauges. You don't seem to have uploaded the CumulusRealtime.swf file?

Have just re-uploaded the Cumulus realtime.swf folder & also checked that enable realtime had been checked & it has.Have had problems with these two dials right from the start.
I loaded Mozilla firefox a couple of weeks ago on both computers because I was told that it might speed my upload - which it seemed to do. I have just gone into the website with Internet explorer on my desktop & am getting the same thing as with MF on my laptop. I therefore that the problems that I am getting on my desktop are linked with settings in Firefox.

Cheers,
Chris

The realtime dials ar still not showing!

Hi aadal,
I have tried in Classic ftp to rename the cumulusrealtime.swf folder to CumulusRealtime.swf but it immediately goes back to cumulusrealtime.swf . Am I trying to change it in the wrong place?

Cheers,
Chris

It sounds like you are doing the right thing but for some reason your ftp client is not doing the right thing - I'm not familiar with Classic ftp.

Check your ftp client options or site options, there is an option somewhere to convert to LOWER case.

I also have convert to lower case as my host is linux and Cumulus is NOT the same as cumulus.

In this day and age Steve should use all lower case, but thats a whole lotta work and he has done so much so we can forgive him ;)

Is this a standard? I must admit I didn't pay much attention to it, and I normally lower-case everything, it's just that I chose to name the Flex project using CamelCase, so the swf came out that way. It wouldn't be too hard to change it.

Hi TrOjAn & Steve,
Went into Options in Classic ftp - unticked ' convert to lower case always', re-booted etc & Eureka ! Thank you so much - it has been driving me mad mad ma...! It works in both Mozilla Firefox & internet explorer on my desktop (XP) but I have a space for the dials & 'click here to download plugins' in Vista on my laptop. It offers Adobe Flash Player which I downloaded but it has made no difference.Any ideas about which plugin I need to download?

Glad to see it has cooled down in Basildon!

Cheers, & thanks again,

Chris

Not sure its a standard.. just my host is Linux so case is essential, as I dont use upper case in any of my web stuff I convert all file names to lowercase.. with Cumulus and links I have to check any that dont work... normally, its nothing more than changing a page call to lowercase and its fine.

DONT go changing anything because of it as its not nothing that I cant keep up with..

I think the CumulusRealtime.swf is the only place I've used upper case, or have you come across any others?

Hi aadal,
Thank you, & thank you for getting me on to the upper case letters in CumulusRealtime. I could have spent weeks with the problem & never thought of that.A simple setting can make all the difference. Have looked at your website & am very impressed.

Cheers,

Chris
