Problems with web page please help!!

Post by Shawn »

Hi,
My wife has brought me a weather station from Maplin USB weather station, i have read a fair few different reviews good and some very very bad. I have downloaded Cumulus and read the forums here.

The problem I'm having is getting the info to my web site. I have a free site with my ISP so what do i need to do to get the info in it lol

I have never used HTML so what code i need for it.

Thanks

Lucky man... my wife only bought me a balloon... and that had a hole in it <LOL>

I suggest you "ignore" html at the start, simply use the "default" Cumulus pages.
You need to obtain the ftp access detailsand password and the "Root directory" name from your isp
Something like ftp. yourname.yourisp.com/
and password
and root htdocs

Then Cumulus
Comfiguration
Internet
and insert the data in the appropriate boxes.

Tick the "auto update" box and you may find it advantageous to also tick "use ftp rename"
Select an upload interval time say 10 (minutes)
Then select Files (top of window)
and tick "Include standard file" and tick "include standard images"

The rest can come later.

Then to start with simply ignore folders etc on the website, Cumulus will put everything into "root"
which simply means if you type in http://www.yourname.yourisp.com/ (or whatever your website address turns out to be)into the browser address
The browser will find the "index page"

Hope it helps
Have fun and a Happy new Year!

If you just want to use the standard web pages as here - http://www.sanday.org.uk/weather - then you don't need any html skills at all. The biggest problem is getting the path correct in the ftp settings, if you're not very experienced with ftp. Have a look at 'Creating your web site' in the Help, and then feel free to ask for any clarification or help you need.

And the info I see Goldrush has just posted will get you off to a good start! :)

Well, it's looking good so far, you created the directory structure correctly and uploaded the necessary files. Have you entered all the ftp details into Cumulus correctly and ticked the auto update box? Does it look as thought it's attempting to upload? You could turn on the ftp logging and I can have a look at the ftplog.txt file which should be produced.

Just open Windows Explorer/program files/cumulus & it should be there.

I had this problem initially.
I found that due to the set up on my webhost, files went down a black hole unless I selected "ftp rename" under configuration.

and how do i make it upload? Looking at Last Modified a few files haven't been updated.
plus i can't seem to change the text in the site, I'd like to change the "weather" to something else. I have gone in to my web page HTML editor and changed it but it just changes back :/

Sorry if I'm being stupid but my first time with HTML.

Thanks

Edit the IndexT.html file (the one in cumulus DIR on the PC) ;) thats the template file, once you have it "customised" to how you like it save a COPY of indexT.html as each time you update Cumulus it will over write it.

Select 'Cumulus Forecast' in the station settings.

You need to configure and upload to your site a file called banner.php which Kevin (TNetWeather) has created. Have a look in the 'website development' part of the forum.

The 'weather' bit is hard-coded into the templates, unfortunately - it just puts your location from Cumulus onto the front. As Trojan says, it's the template files (the ones with the 'T' in them) that you need to edit (and make your own copy), these are the pages from which the actual pages (the corresponding ones without the 'T' in them) are created periodically (and are therefore temporary).
