NEVER had any problems with the beta's until this one, and its a STRANGE one too,
In the program, internet, files area, last night, and now tonight, the files, some characters are being adjusted/added/changed (see below)
Obviously causing problems with keeping the site updated

This is a problem which some people do have, but so far no-one has been able to pin down exactly when it happens. I can't reproduce the problem and there is no obvious reason for it, so I can't fix it.
When did you notice it? Did those files stop updating suddenly while Cumulus was running, so you opened the config screen? Or did you open the config screen and then you noticed it? Or did it start happening after you had stopped and started Cumulus. Anything you can tell me may help me fix it.

Got a single computer running quite happily on its own now, running just cumulus, went to see my latest weather on the website, noticed it hadn't updated, checked the system status page, noticed that had passed the update time, so checked the computer itself.
All i did was open cumulus, went to the internet files page, and saw the errors, oh, for what it's worth, i did start to use yawcam yesterday morning, but these errors happened before that also. Had not stopped/started cumulus during the problem at all, both events occoured in the evening, as for the exact time, not a clue, any sort of time after 6pm
Computer is running XP, SP3

I was helping Rob (via remote control) to look at this the first time it happened. That time, it was the remote file names for today.php (and one other I can't remember) that had become corrupted. Instead of the square, there was a } in the filenames. So it seems quite random.

So the strings were actually corrupted in memory; not by reading/writing to the ini file, or on the settings screen. That narrows it down a lot. It does suggest that it's a bug in Cumulus itself, rather than any third-party components. Thanks.

Steve, Rob had sent me his cumulus.ini file at the time. Here is an extract from it which also shows corruption:

It would be useful to know what those characters actually are in hex.
But how did they get into the cumulus.ini file? Cumulus only writes the file if you change settings or close it down.

Something similar happens to me last year the first december(build964 or 965).
Host name was corrupted in internet settings "meyenheim.localweatherview.n??".
edit: i think the problem occurs while Cumulus was running and by stopping it the corrupted data are stored to the ini file!
No other problem since.

Yes, others have seen the location, forum URL and forecast strings corrupted. All presumably the same problem.
Rob, how long had Cumulus been running when you noticed the problem?

Can you tell me (if you know) how the corrupt strings got into the cumulus.ini that you sent to Paul? Having spotted a problem and opened the internet settings screen, did you then click 'OK'? Close Cumulus down?

The ini file had the corruption in before we looked at the settings page and noticed the problem. But Rob could possibly answer whether he'd looked at that settings page before sending me the file?

I dont know mate, sorry to be awkward, but I saw them the first night, corrected them, clicked ok, but didn't close cumulus down, same last night, and in fact in the last 20 minutes or so, have had to correct two further errors, do you think it would help, if i made sure everything was ok, then close cumulus and restart it?

I have a theory about how the corruptions might occur (i.e. the kind of bug that might cause it, even though I don't know where that bug is), but I don't understand how the corruption gets into the cumulus.ini file.
I think that the bug might only occur after Cumulus has been running for several hours, so it might be useful if you did restart it now, please. Once you've stopped it, check the cumulus.ini file for any corruption.
