Guess what is causing this rather erratic windspeed graph?

Actually, I was doing some maintenance and had my 5m pole down. Went inside to get some batteries (lithium) to change them while I was at it. My daughter looked out the window and announced, "Dad, your ladder fell over!"
Result, shattered one cup and broke the point off the wind vane.
So, that is what 2 out of 3 cups does to the wind speed graphs. Wind vane still works and if anything, doesn't flit around so much.
Spare parts are on the way.

Re: Quiz time
I'm glad it wasn't because you were on the ladder, and the cup was the only thing to grab onto as you went down...

Re: Quiz time
I've broken one of the arms/cups off my test anemometer
Probably glue it up with Araldyte.

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.

Oh, this one was shattered beyond recognition. Counted the bits - total 6 bits, and I don't know if I have them all.Gina wrote:I've broken one of the arms/cups off my test anemometerProbably glue it up with Araldyte.

Re: Quiz time
Short of buying a new anemometer unit, perhaps one of your wife's measuring spoons or cups is the right size
. Might need balancing after glueing onto the stub though.

Re: Quiz time
Ping pong balls cut in half make good anemometer cups. (pardon me - table tennis balls). They are the same size as the FO cups. In fact I intend to make my own anemometer later as part of a complete weather station.

Re: Quiz time
Have ordered an anemometer and a windvane unit for the fine offset from an Australian eBay supplier.
While I was at it I ordered a WH2081 (AU$92) including postage from the same supplier. This unit will be for the school I work at approx 65km (direct) from my home. It will be an interesting project working with students (and another teacher) to set it up and get the website up and running. Quite exciting really.

Re: Quiz time
There is one already in SA at Hallet Cove School. I have a link to it on my site under "Other PWS Websites". Here's the direct link http://www2.hcs.sa.edu.au/Curriculum/Weather.aspxfractonimbus wrote:What an excellent idea...tjaliwalpa wrote:... Ours will be set up so in the library with a dedicated display (running in kiosk mode). The library is also a Public Library so hopefully there will be quite a bit of interest in the project from the community as well.
