Cumulus Support

Do not forget us here in Australia. my problem is I cannot type the latitude because the software does not recognize the minus sign. Our latitude is minus 34 (-34) something and when I try to set the latitude it does not work. I suspect that because of this the the program shows the sun setting in the morning and rising at night???. Is the program going to work in the Southern hemiphere. New 81 year old member so running out of brain cells. Thanks

Cumulus has lots of antipodean users. You southerners have to put an 'S' in the box where it currently says 'N'.

Good one Grand dad. Steves right, use S and E OK. LOL and all that stuff..... Your doing much better than my father would. I don't think he'd know how to turn a computer on and he's "only" 73. My mother on the other hand.....
PS...Careful on any ladders OK. And where abouts in Adelaide? Go the Crows!

One nice touch is that Steve has created moon images which are correct for hemisphere (waxing crescent points left in the south, right in the north). Even some astronomy programs don't get that right, but Cumulus does.

Go the Crows, and hello to "frationimbus". Nice to meet you all. Hope you dont mind if I pick all your brains as I go further into this great program. Next question... The wind speed guage reads almost double my base station. I could ignore it as everything else seems to work just fine, or mabe there is a simple fix? As an ex aircraft aircraft engineer I like everything to work perfectly, habit. regards.

Getting onto your wind speed issue, there is a section in cumulus to set multipliers for data. if you click on "Configuration" and then "Calibration" you will see the screen with the values, just make sure that the wind speed is set to 1.00, if it is already set to 1.00 we'll need to ask you some questions to ascertain where the issue resides.

I agree with you regarding aircraft, everything 'must' work perfect.

Gumeracha, hey. I grew up in the area (Birdwood, Cromer, Forreston). Once you have your website set up I shall add it to my website favourites as it will have special interest for me. My brother lives up Martins Hill Road between Forreston and Birdwood. Always interested in what is happening weather wise in the area.

Your base station is probably set to "speed" which is an average. It also has a "gust" option which is calculated over, what I believe, as being the average of the highest 2 consecutive 2 seconds readings(press it on the station and you can go through the different menus untill you can select it). Cumulus takes the "gust" from the station and uses it as it's "latest" figure. The "Gust" on Cumulus is the highest "latest" on Cumulus/"gust" on station for the last 10 minutes. "Avg" on Cumulus is the 10 minute average....this can vary depending whether you have selected "Calculate 10 min wind average" in the Station Settings in Cumulus.
You can select Gust on the station and it will be the same as latest on Cumulus, or your speed on your Station will be roughly the same as the average on Cumulus (I selected Gust and selected "Calculate 10 min av".

The other possibility is that the units are set differently. I managed to do that when I first installed Cumulus (but the other way around - I had Cumulus set to metres/sec and the base station set to kmh). Need to start over, if that is the case.

BTW, I'm another ex-South Australian (at least for 5 years) - lived in Kent Town.
