Hi,
Can anybody assist please in setting up a banner, like many of you have in your postings.
I have downloaded and installed the banner.php file on my webserver, but havent got the knowledge to edit the file as at present the link
www.miltonbrown.co.uk\weather\banner.php
gives me a page cannot be found.
I have read the pdf file on this topic but cant understand it!
When I tried to edit the PHP file in notepad it looked very user unfriendly!!
many thanks

Hi,
Firstly, you're using backslashes when you should be using forward slashes. So try:-
www.miltonbrown.co.uk/weather/banner.php. I just tried that and no file was found so it looks like you haven't uploaded it.
For that link to work your banner.php file must exist in the weather sub-folder. Also, there must be no errors in the file otherwise it won't show.
You're correct in assuming it isn't a very user-friendly language to understand but start by checking if you have the required fonts in the fonts sub-folder if you're using True Type ones. You can copy those from C:\Windows\Fonts to your server.
Check also that realtime.txt exists in the weather folder on the server.

I don't think it's a problem with the contents of your file, it's that the web server says it can't be found. If you've definitely uploaded it, then perhaps the problem is that your web hosting doesn't support PHP?

Sure, I can do that. It doesn't contain any sensitive information. I'm at work and will send it around 5pm.
If you're going to use mine you'll need to add additional fonts on your server. The font section will identify which ones.

I note that you seem to be using "Virtual Directories", could this be a problem ?

Not sure what you mean by virtual directory as have had a website for some years which seems to work with everything else I have up there!

thats weird as I ran the script from within my site via ftp yesterday and was advised PHP okay. today when I have just tried before sending you the link and nothing happened.
the add to the checkserver.php is
www.miltonbrown.co.uk/weather/checkserver.php
So I dont understand why it would work yesterday and not today.
as you can probably am a newbie as regards websites but have had a family one running for some years with no issues

first, "miltb120", it would be nice if you could sign your messages with a REAL name. Thanks.
From one of the error message that I receive when trying to get a file that is not on your server, I would guess that 1&1 is probably your host server.
With that written, I looked for the file 'banner.php' by forcing a display of the source and I still get the same error message. So, either the file 'banner.php' is not where the link is pointing or the file is corrupted.
Note: The file 'checkserver.php' cannot be found at the link you are pointing us to!
The pages of your weather web site are displaying properly.

Milton, thank you...
I have just looked and still nothing! Are you sure the file 'checkserver.php' and 'banner.php' are in the same directory where all Cumulus HTM files are located. Are you sure the files have the proper 'PHP' extension and nothing else (such as 'HTM' or 'TXT' for example).

Milton,
I'm wondering if you are running a IIS server from Msoft on your local computer and if php ánd GD is supported.

I have rechecked and
all the cumulus htm files are there
checkserver.php and banner.php are there and my index.htm for the normal site are all in the same directory called weather which is where my weather site link works
www.miltonbrown.co.uk/weather/index.htm
I am sorry that this is proving an issue as I am relatively new to all this!

Milton
