Dumb newbie WH1091 question

I'm completely new to home weather stations but was given a WH1091 for Christmas (nice!). However, the manual is dreadful, and EasyWeather is really irritating (or it is without proper explanation). And WeatherDisplay is excruciatingly ugly. WeatherSnoop for Mac doesn't work properly with the 1091 and is also ugly. Cumulus, OTOH, is beautiful, and I have got it working (sort of - it shows current readings) with the WH1091.
A few (hopefully trivial) questions: The main Cumulus window spends a lot of time flashing the green "new record" icon - every ten seconds or so - and doesn't seem to stop: Is it just downloading a lot of records, or is it having problems? If OK, how long must it spend before it stops doing this? And will it empty the WH1091 memory when it has finished (which is now 50% full)?
To complicate matters I'm running WinXP via Parallels 6 on a Mac.

The green light flashes for a new record (i.e. all-time high or low) so you're bound to get this a lot when you first start. It will continue to flash until you click on it or view the records via the menu, or restart Cumulus. It will of course then flash again for the next new record.
And will it empty the WH1091 memory when it has finished (which is now 50% full)?
You don't need to clear the memory (in fact I don't recommend it). The station will simply overwrite the oldest entries and Cumulus will cope.

OK, Thanks, Steve. While waiting for the spammer check, I found out what "new record" meant

not a new data set but a new data value outside previous limits for some parameter. Doh!
And Cumulus is working perfectly on my Mac using Parallels/WinXP.
Thanks for the tip on memory use in the WH1091.

Mmmmm. I think I've read this exact post elsewhere. De Ja Vu anyone? Think of your temperature. You start it up during the day at <insert temp here>. The only temp it's ever recorded is that temp. So as it cools down, it thinks "wow, new low temp record", then gets colder still, "wow, new low record" over and over until it doesn't get any colder for that day. This low temp record won't go off again until it beats it on another day. It will do this for every parameter that Cumulus records. That's normal and expected. How long? Until you stop breaking records.
It will not empty the records. It will get full then just keep replacing the oldest mem with the newest. But with Cumulus it will store it on your computer. Your not running a Commodore 64 are you? You'll be fine, it's great from here on.
Crap.......Steve beat me to it.....oh well. Now where's my delete button........
