set cumulus to retrieve ABS hpa instead of RELative hpa pres

Hi,

I have a WH1088PRO weather station and originally had it set to display RELative pressure in HPA and reported correctly in Cumulus. I have changed my weather station to display ABSolute pressure in Hpa, but Cumulus is still reporting in RELative, how do I change Cumulus to report the change?

thanks

You can't. Why do you want to display absolute pressure?

Maybe some confusion between relative and absolute? I was a bit confused at first but it makes sense if you think about it.

Possibly; it's understandable (that there is sometimes confusion). It's one reason I prefer the terms 'station pressure' and 'sea-level pressure'.

Hi, sorry I tried to reply earlier but it did not seem to post. If you look at most of the Chch stations at wunderground.com (where I upload my data), including the Chchc Airport, and the NZ Metservice http://www.metservice.com/towns-cities/christchurch they all seem to be reporting Absolute instead of Relative and do not understand why, I have always run my station using Relative

Cheers

Lindsay

Weather stations invariably report pressure corrected to sea-level (i.e. 'relative' pressure). Airfields may report other types of pressure figure, but these are for the benefit of aircraft, not for meteorological purposes.

If your reason for believing that the other stations are reporting absolute pressure is that your 'relative' figures don't agree with them, then you probably haven't set your relative pressure correctly - see the manual.

If you don't program an offset into your weather station, then the absolute and relative should be the same.
I think. I'm still new at this.
I'm at 1100 ft elevation, so I put in an offset of 1.1 inches.

That's right, if the offset is zero, but from what I've seen, Fine Offset stations tend to come with a random offset already programmed in.

That looks about right, but rather than use the theoretical offset, it's better if you can to set your pressure using a reference taken from a nearby reliable station.

Aye, there's the rub.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your response, thats were I am getting confused, I am only 7 feet above sea level and I have the station on my roof, so max, 20 ft above sea level, so my absolute and Relative should be similar? - I will see if I can find my manual and try a figure out where I have gone wrong

cheers

Yes, pretty much identical; if they're not then your station probably has an unsuitable offset pre-configured.
