Display Cumulus web pages without cumulus on a local PC

Post by chesselweather »

Is there anyway that I can upload data from my Davis Vantage Vue directly to a web server which displays Cumulus pages - like I do currently to the Davis server. I have Davis' WeatherlinkIP Data logger connected directly to my router. The object of the exercise is to be able to show a web based weather screen without using a local PC running the Cumulus software 24/7. I currently have Cumulus running on a PC connected to the router and the pages display perfectly on the web server I'm using.

Weatherlink IP can only upload to the Davis server. So if you wanted to update a web site without having a PC running, you would need something else running to extract the data from the weather station and upload it to a web site. If that device didn't behave like a Windows PC then you wouldn't be able to run Cumulus on it.

But there are things like Meteohub which will run on low power devices (like routers) and can extract data from weather stations and upload it to a web site.

Thanks Steve - do you have any customers using the Meteohub solution with Cumulus?

Also on a slightly different matter, I've noticed that when I fire up Cumulus, it seems to interrupt my Davis Vantage Vue sending data to the Davis servers. Have you heard of this problem before?
Thanks Alec

Sorry, I don't know what you mean. I have no connection with Meteohub, and know very little about it, I just know of its existence. I have no idea who is using it. They can't currently work together, although I believe there is an enhancement request for me to add support in Cumulus for the Meteohub data format (so Cumulus could then display data for the stations which Meteohub supports and Cumulus doesn't).

Weatherlink IP has a somewhat stupid restriction that it can only have one IP connection open at any time. This means that if any software is connected to it, it can't update the Davis web site. The work around for this is that Cumulus will optionally disconnect once a minute for a specified number of seconds - see 'discon period' in the station settings.

Thanks, I'll just have to keep that old PC running with Cumulus.

You could perhaps consider a low-power PC? Some of them only use 20W or so.

Hi guys.

this may be of interest (or not)

I have just upgraded my laptop and am now using the 10 year old one as the dedicated wx station system.

By running in eco mode, with no screen active, the power is down to acceptable cost levels and the system reports 15-20 watts being drawn.

I am trialling Teamviewer software to access the system remotely. Its free and works VERY well.

So i can up upload to the web site and/or see the station directly. I can remotely run, transfer, Use IP and sound over IP and all for FREE

Hope this is usefull
