I know that won't fix any corruption, but it will fix the weblink to the forum, and that's the main idea right?
Yeah, already thought of that. But it means you have to change the link in every T file used - not a big job, I know, but it would obviously be better to have the corruption fixed.

I know which is easier! And I think I had a similar problem and just didn't know it. Some of my pages came up with <#forum> at the bottom, so I just changed them manually (Ctrl C&V is a cinch

). Since you've edited your pages already, this should be the fastest/easiest. If the problem starts occuring in data that is always changing, then you've got a problem.

Intend to do the changes manually - I keep my own versions of the T files in a different sub-folder so thay don't get clobbered when I download a new version. However, I am using a beta version and as such, advising Steve and discussing the problem with him is just a part of being a "good" beta tester.

That's what I do too, but there is also an option in the install process to not include updating the HTML templates, just untick the box.

That sounds like your angle brackets have been changed to HTML entities, rather than it being a corruption of the ini-file strings -

Off memory I don't think that happened. The angle brackets were still there, and it only happened with that, and the whole link to the forum wasn't there either. Weird.

Just a heads-up on above problem:
Just DL & installed 1.9.1 b976 and the problem still exists.
I re-built the web pages immediately upon installing b976 (so all the "T" files were as distributed) and the error was still there. So, it would appear that it is independant of any "outside" changes that may be made to the "T" htm files.

Yes, it's nothing to do with the web pages. The string which holds the forum URL internally in Cumulus is being corrupted. Either when it gets read from the ini file, or when it gets written to the ini file, or (less likely) at some point after it's been read while Cumulus is running.
If I'm to have any hope of discovering the cause, I need someone to work out by a bit of experimentation at what point the corruption occurs. For example, once it's corrupt on the web page, without doing any changes to any settings in Cumulus is it then also corrupt in cumulus.ini; is at also corrupt on the internet settings screen. If corrected via the settings screen, does it then become OK in the cumulus.ini file, and so on.

OK, Steve, my apologies - and you can call off the dogs.
Wasn't even aware that the Forum URL was provided in the Internet configuration screen - figured it was probably hard coded. It was wrong in the config - so of course this was perpetuated throughout the system. Don't remember ever having keyed it in, but go figure. I reinstalled r976 to try to give you a known starting point, then made this disovery.
You can relax - sure you have bigger more important problems to solve.
For future reference, I am always happy to experiment or try things if you need that sort of thing or you need to see if a problem can be duplicated - I figure part of running a Beta.

Call off the dogs? What does that mean? Are you reading things into my reply that aren't there? All I'm asking for is information, and I think I was polite enough.
Don't remember ever having keyed it in,
Why would you have changed the forum URL anyway? And I think it's highly unlikely you could have typed those characters in, they were non-printables, weren't they - came out as 'squares'? And I thought you had said you had corrected it in cumulus.ini, and then the corruption came back again?

Isn't that was I asking?

Well, yes, but I took it as an indication that Ian had taken exception to my reply in some way, which completely threw me. I know I can be a bit brusque at times, but that's invariably in response to someone who has been rude to start with. Maybe I should just close the forum and give no support at all, that would remove any possibility of misunderstanding. I have actually been seriously considering this recently. Cue accusations of 'dummy spitting'...

It's not good you've felt that way Steve, but I can certainly understand why! Some members have demonstrated extreme rudeness and disrespect in other threads and they seem to forget you give FREE software, FREE incredible support and FREE regular software updates - all this for FREE and you do it as a hobby. Maybe some members haven't realised any of this.

Woah, don't get so snippy - just a common Aussie saying meaning you can stop searching.

Yes, I had changed it in the ini file - but, I
guess if it was in the Config setup, it would be perpetuated on each recreation of the web files. And, they were not non-printable - could have been keyed in, just don't remember keying in or changing that field.
For future reference, I am always happy to experiment or try things if you need that sort of thing or you need to see if a problem can be duplicated

Just letting you know I am always happy to assist. Cumulus is a VERY well designed package and a pleasure to use. I am sure there are times when you might say "I wonder if someone else can duplicate this or give me another insight".
Try getting out of bed on the other side next time.
