Webpage footer no longer linking to Forum

Post by smirc »

The footer options in each generated webpage no longer points to the Forum when that option is clicked on - it is looking for http://sandaysoft.com/fo?vm. It would appear that the <#forum> tag is being replaced incorrectly.

This looks like another example of the corruption that some people have seen in the 'forecast' and 'location' strings. I'm afraid I have no idea what causes it.

Had you made any changes to any other settings, or did it just start happening? Does it persist if you restart Cumulus?

Hi Steve,

I have not changed other settings, but have made extensive changes to the web-page format - but none in the area of the footers. You can view the website at:

I should have added (to answer your other questions) that I don't know when it started as it was only recently that I realised I could get to this forum (theoretically :D ) from the web page. It does persist if I restart Cumulus.

The error in the HTML link on your site is obvious when you have a look at it:

<a href="http://sandaysoft.com/fo?vm/">

It should be <a href="https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/">

Where the error has come from is anyones guess.

Have a look in cumulus.ini and see if the corrupted string is also in there; I'm guessing that it is, if it persists over a restart. I have a theory that the corruptions occur in the library routines which read and write ini-file settings.

Checked cumulus.ini - the corruption is in there. Shutdown Cumulus, updated ForumURL entry in the ini file & saved it. Reran Cumulus and manually selected Web Update. Both Web page and the ini file showed the corrupted value.

This is without changing any settings in Cumulus, and without closing Cumulus down? If so, that's very odd, as Cumulus wouldn't have written the cumulus.ini file, so how did it become corrupted?

Which folder do you have Cumulus installed in?

Cumulus is installed in D:\Cumulus

I did close Cumulus down, but so I could manually change the ini file. Having done that, I simply ran Cumulus, forced a web update & then checked the web page & ini file.

I'm baffled then, because Cumulus wouldn't have written the cumulus.ini file after you corrected it.

If it wouldn't have written it, what about when it replaces the tag in the web "t" files?

It doesn't write the cumulus.ini file to do that; it just takes the string that it read in at start up and writes it to the web page. I'm not saying it didn't write the corrupted string to the web page, I'm saying that I don't know how the cumulus.ini file became corrupted again after you corrected it.

So we have a genuine mystery on our hands. Having seen how zealous & dedicated you are in all things Cumulus (meant as a VERY positive comment), I am sure you will solve it. If there is anyway I can assist in solving the problem, don't hesitate.

Ummm...so why don't you just change it in the indexT.htm by opening in notepad and putting in
.
I know that won't fix any corruption, but it will fix the weblink to the forum, and that's the main idea right?
