Cracking morning out

My voluntary role with the lifeboats reached a new high point today, as well as being made "offical probationary crew member" I had the pleasure of driving our lifeboat as well today, not for too long, maybe 15 minutes or so, but plenty of time to enjoy it, the Atlantic 85 is a cracking piece of kit, 230bhp under your right hand, and very responsive as well!, yeah ok top speed ain't much, but when your doing that through AND INDEED over the waves, its one hell of an adreniline rush!

Oh, and when we come back to the boathouse today, our smaller d-class was launched, to the aid of a pooch who had fallen down some cliffs into the sea, "Scooby" was rescued by 3 of our team, brought back to shore, taken to the vet, and apart from a cut above his eye, and brusing, was all ok!!

When I read these posts by you Brits, I realize that there's an exuberance, or something, that's just missing from this cynical side of the pond.

If we could sit down over a cold one, I'd say not a word and let you tell me all about it.
You do serve drinks cold, don't you?

Cheers!

Sadly, I wasn't involved with the actual rescue, I had not long come back in off the other boat,

@artworksmetal

Do you mean an exuberance for voluntary work? or volunteers in general, if so, I am sure there must be volunteers doing similar on your side

Well done Rob, maybe I'll see you over at Trearddurr this summer. 35 knots for the Atlantic 85 isn't bad - it's pretty heavily loaded and twin engined are always a bit slower due to the extra drag - nice if you're not paying for the fuel too:). Something ripped the depth sounder transducer off mine last time I was out - more expense :(

No worries mate, plan to spend a good bit of time in the station, I think she is about 1.8 tonnes if i recall correctly, she carries 160 litres of fuel when full, so yeah thats a good bit of extra weight

Great stuff Rob!! Have you got any pics of your boats?

I used to be an operational member of the Sea Rescue Squadron here many years ago, and my brother in law still is. We spent some pretty horrible nights out searching for people and boats in distress. I know first hand that you have to be pretty brave to be out there, so you certainly have my highest respect!! :clap:

its a fantastic trailer, it has gates on either side that can be opened out a bit, to aid recovery in windy weather, and net recovery in rough weather when they enter it forwards, at night, the gates are lit up by very bright LED's

Fantastic!! Here's some info on the Sea Rescue Squadron. I really enjoyed it there, but decided as I live in a bushfire area I had to commit more time to the County Fire Service instead.
