Crazy rain readings

Just checked cumulus and saw the new record light flashing.

I go in and see this..

All time high rain rate : 1.1785E5 mm/hr
All time high daily rain : 9830.4 mm
All time high hourly rain : 9830.4 mm
Highest monthly rainfall : 9846.6 mm

I checked the display on my Fine Offset base station and it is reading 0mm as we have had no rain and the monthly and total figures are normal.

Is this something that occasionally happens? Not worried just curious.

It's fairly common with Fine Offset stations; sometimes the bucket can get tipped by the wind etc, but really huge differences like this are probably down to some sort of interference or corruption of the data. There's a FAQ on correcting rainfall totals.

If it happens frequently, you might want to look at whether there could be any interference affecting your rain gauge; or possibly try changing your USB cable (although I'm not sure if anyone has ever demonstrated that the USB cable could be the cause of data corruption).

Cumulus does try to filter out some of the garbage data (it's not just rainfall) and I keep trying to improve the filtering.
