Delivery times - USA to UK

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some components from HobbyBoards in the US. They emailed me on 5/1/11 to say that my package had been shipped (10 days ago). I haven't received it yet and wondered if this was normal. I think this is the first time I've ordered direct from The States and would like to know what the usual delivery times are.

Hmmm....I've never ordered goods, but have sent packages between myself and a friend in the US. In my experience 7 days in the longest I have waited -- sometimes it only takes three.
I take it there is no tracking number supplied to trace the item?

Thanks for your reply

I thought it was taking rather a long time.

No, I only have HobbyBoards' invoice number. I'll send them an email if it doesn't come Monday - they don't seem to work over the weekend.

Not that this is a good reason, but a friend of mine in the US was telling me there is still a huge backlog of material being shipped to Europe from North America as a result of the December airport shutdowns. Add the elongated "mail pause" through Christmas/New Years and things are likely piled up waiting to move.

Gina, iirc HobbyBoards were shipping US Priority Mail? I've ordered lots of stuff from the USA in the past and this is my preferred method (I have to trog miles and miles to the courier depots to pick things up, the Post Office is just down the road).
Normally it takes about a week, but as other people have pointed out there is a Christmas backlog in the USA, it can also get stuck in customs at this end for a while if they have a backlog. Though the declared value on your bits should be under the customs limit I think still they check them all

Fingers crossed you do not get stuck for the VAT, then the Post Office charge you about £8 (iirc) for the priveldge of taking a few pence off you

Diifferent country i know, but I ordered a new torch (led lenser mt7) from aussie on 22nd december, i received it 14 days later, this was during a hectic period for both countries, so it should give you some idea.
Ask for a tracking number if they have one, pester them!

I guess it's the Christmas backlog then. This is part of the order confirmation email

You're above the VAT threshold, so it could well be stuck in customs.

Also it's "US Mail First-Class Mail International Package", which 'sounds' slower than Priority Mail.

You live and learn!
In view of various possible hold-ups I'll give it a few more days before trying to chase it up. Meanwhile, I have a "work around" to manage without the chips I've ordered in case I get to wanting that part of the system before I get those particular chips.
