easyweather rainfall readings error
I have been given easyweather system and operating for two months. have incorrect rainfall readings consistantly about 25% less than actual. Retailer exchanged me his display unit rainfall module but this too is same error. I have standard rainfall gauge alongside with no obstructions so am sure readings are wrong. does anybody get correct rainfall tallies with this system??.

Re: easyweather rainfall readings error
Is it just in Cumulus that you get the incorrect rain, or is the console showing it too? If it's the station itself, you can use the calibration facility in Cumulus to compensate.

Re: easyweather rainfall readings error
Its as recorded by the station. I wondered if all Easyweather systems consistently recorded lower totals than actual rainfall. So far the rainfall data does not seem accurate enough to use permanently for my long term records

Hi schumand .
best 'guess' is that the rain reciever is too shallow which allows drops to splash out.
I fitted a 10 cm deep metal casing inside the top of the rain collector.
So far its stayed in place and has improved the collection rate to within 5% of a manual collector

My one is the other way round, it records about 20% over what lands in my 'old fashioned' rainguage! I also found that mounting the rainguage closer to the ground made a difference, (8ft up on a pole for my fruit cage was over 30% over, so now it's on a fencing stake about 4ft off the ground. I would mount it lower but the neighbours cat thought the wind metre was a great toy!!))
On mine each trip of the balance thingy is 0.3mm rain. I't needs to be about 0.2mm per trip. Now I've got three-four months of data I know it's not a few one offs so I'll change on the callibration bit on Cumulus (one of the reasons I got it)

Re: easyweather rainfall readings error
I bench tested mine and found it 9% under. You can adjust it by reducing the amount of tipping angle in the unit. Then testing it for accuracy. The height of a matchstick on both sides got it right for me. But you do have to do your math so you know excactly how many drops of water makes 1 tip (or 0.3mm).schumand wrote:I have been given easyweather system and operating for two months. have incorrect rainfall readings consistantly about 25% less than actual. Re: easyweather rainfall readings error
Thanks for replies people. Gives me the info that the rainfall part of the weather station is basically a guide only and not to used for accurate tallies. My unit tips 0.3 mm each discharge. might try the anti splash thing as i too thought it looked too shallow. I am still getting close to 25% less than actual each rainfall...
