Put these three lines in in the indexT.htm file, just below <head>

Code: Select all

<meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache" >
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" >
<meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1" >
That should stop caching.

That's the way it's supposed to work; see this http://www.mnot.net/cache_docs/#CONTROL

Still, I have used 2 of the meta tags listed in the previous post in my site, and have not had any cache problems at all.

Your web server is sending an HTTP 'Expires' header with a date 24 hours hence.

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Zeus/4.3
Date: Mon, 27 Dec 2010 16:08:32 GMT
Last-Modified: Mon, 27 Dec 2010 16:04:01 GMT
Vary: Accept-Encoding
Expires: Tue, 28 Dec 2010 16:08:32 GMT
Content-Length: 4591
Content-Type: text/html
Accept-Ranges: bytes

So it's saying that a browser doesn't need to fetch a new page for 24 hours.

Steve, thanks for that. Is there anything I can do about it - in layman's language, please :-)

I was going to try Paul's (Synewave's) workaround by inserting some code in indexT - would that work?

I would add also that I have configured my Opera browser so that it does not remember the content of cached pages, and that seems to have done the trick in that I now see the latest data every time I visit the page. Of course, that won't help anyone else who visits.

Thanks again for everyone's input, but a little more advice still needed please.

Best wishes, Kieron

Hi Kieron,

I use it and it seems to work.

Make a backup of your indexT.htm file first, just incase you need to revert!

Just edit the indexT.htm file using Notepad (or install Notepad++, which is much nicer to use). As I said before, just place those three lines of code just below <head>. Save it click on Webupdate in File in the Cumulus program.

To make sure the new code has been updated on your page, browse the page on the internet and right-click then click on view source. You should see those three lines of code.

Just ask if you get stuck.

It will work IF the server 'allows' the expires overwrites !

He may need to contact his web space provider - or

talk to daj ;)

OK Folks,

I took Paul's advice and amended the indexT.htm file. It seems to have done the trick and I can now see current data every visit, regardless of which browser I use - presumably everyone else can too.

So, many thanks to Paul and to everyone else who took the trouble to respond to this thread.

Happy Days!

Kieron

Excellent, glad it worked. You could also put those three lines of code in the other .....T.htm files to make sure they always display the latest data.

Hi Paul,

No need, I think. They seem to update at the same time as the index page.

Cheers, Kieron

Kieron,

Just a little note just in case you haven't realised, when you next upgrade Cumulus, you will lose those three lines from your indexT.htm file if you have 'update HTML templates' ticked during the upgrade process. So either untick that option next time you upgrade or put those lines in again after upgrading.

Thanks Paul, I've made a mental note of that.
