Lovely spider house.............

............the rain gauge that is

I don't know why but my unit seems to attract a lot of spiders and they all take up residence in the rain gauge, weave their webs and then of course it all stops working. The need to get the ladder out every couple of weeks is a real pain ! I've heard old wives tales about putting conkers (horse chestnuts) around the mast but not sure I'm just having my leg tugged a bit

You need some fine mesh across the bottom where the water comes out. I had spider problems but it's been OK since I did that.

Insect "barrier" spray also works for me.

Possibly not an old wives tale......in the past somewhere on a sailing website I've seen a reference to a commercially available spider repellant based on horse chestnut extract.....I think it was a French product.
