Consistent Bug.....

Post by jlfutari »

Hi all,
Occasionally after starting Cumulus the 'Downloading data' window does not go away (see attached JPEG).
I've had this bug in Cumulus V1.8.9 & 1.9.0.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this Bug.
It does not effect the performance of Cumulus in anyway......

Cheers

James

On each occasion, Cumulus has gone through the code which should cause Windows to close the window:

4/12/2010 12:41:11.001 : WS2300: Closing Please Wait form
4/12/2010 12:41:11.001 : PleaseWaitForm.Close executed

So I don't know why it isn't closing. I'm not aware of anyone else having this problem; usually when people report the window staying open a long time it's simply because it's taking a long time to download the data, but that's not the case here.

Hi Steve,

Just to refine my original post, this bug only occurs if I shut down and restart Cumulus in my current windows session. If I reboot XP(restart my computer), when Cumulus starts the 'Downloading data' windows disappears after a short time.

Cheers

I've added one extra line of code to the next build which in theory is redundant, but may make a difference, if it's some odd bug in Windows or the Delphi runtime.

Using 970, it did take a good minute or so for Cumulus to shut down when closed. I will post if it does it again tonight.

The problem in this thread is the 'please wait' window not closing when you start Cumulus up.

Regarding the slow shut down, this occurs because the diags logger runs in the background; if it has a lot to catch up on, Cumulus has to wait until it's finished before closing. Typically, this will occur if you start Cumulus up when it has a lot of logger entries to download, and then you close it down again soon after. It can take several minutes (hence the warning on the 'Cumulus is closing' screen) in some cases. But 'normally' it should close quite quickly.

My bad. Yap, knew that, just forgot how confusing it is to run two subjects in the same thread.

Hi all.

every so often i get the same problem with the 'download box' not quitting.

I have found it happens if i START other programs while the download is taking place.

It doesnt happen every time with every program so i suspect its a processor issue with XP on my main PC.

The answer is to NOT OPEN any other programs while the download is running.

Possibly Windows is losing some messages. It's certainly an odd bug. Cumulus doesn't get involved at all in closing the Window, other than to log a message to say that the window has been closed. Of course, it may be the logging of that message that triggers the problem.
