Cumulus Support

Guys, I'm struggling with a basic wall board and need some help.

My weather web site uses the basic templates that came with Cumulus, so I've copied the index.htm page and renamed it wallboard. I then wanted to change the format so saved it as wallboard2.htm and then changed the fonts etc in the table. However I can't seem to get it to display the current data from the realtime.txt file. I then noticed that for every standard page there was one with the same name but suffixed with T, eg indexT.htm which contained what looks like field data cells. I tried adding those but it still didn't work http://micro-heli.co.uk/weather/wallboard2.htm

Can someone point me in the right direction, or tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Changing formats and styles needs to be done in weatherstyle.css

You have edited the index.html page, when you should have edited the indexT.html page

I don't think the data from your new page is coming from the realtime.txt file. You would need a script to do that. I guess what you have is the realtime checkbox ticked on the Cumulus Internet Files page so that the page gets processed and uploaded at the realtime interval set. That's not quite the same as reading from the realtime.txt file.

I tried that. I saved the indexT.htm as wallboard3.htm and uploaded it (http://micro-heli.co.uk/weather/wallboard3.htm) but this doesn't update either.

I don't really want to mess with the style sheet as this might screw up the main site (I still want the the default web site, this is mainly so I can display local weather at work)

How does the default web site that comes bundled with Cumulus work. I have my ftp settings entered on the internet page and the realtime checkbox is ticked. I've seen other forum members web sites and they are of their own design so there must be a way where I can get my wallboard page to display just the data I want ?

You don't upload the indexT file, you edit that, for layout, content etc etc, this is then copied into index.html which is uploaded automatically by cumulus

Just out of interest are you getting any errors shown in cumulus

The default pages, all of the T.htm files, they get processed (all of the <#webtags> get converted to the real data) and copied to a TMP file on your PC. Cumulus then uploads the TMP files to your webspace without the TMP, i.e. index.htm .

The importatnt thing here is that Cumulus only processes and FTP's the standard files. It does not do the same for any extra files you name with a T.htm .

So other named files need to be treated differently:

To get your wallboard working, create a file called wallboardT.htm (the T is not important in this case but just do it for familiarity). This file should have all of your desired <#webtags> in it. Go to Cumulus Internet Files, and add this page as the source. The Remote filename should be wallboard.htm (without the T). Tick Process and FTP. You could also tick Realtime if you want but that would cause the page to upload at the same interval you have set for realtime.

Thanks for the explanation, I'll give that a go and let you know how I get on.

One thing I forgot to say, of course the remote filename will also need to include the correct path before the remote filename i.e. htdocs/weather/wallboard.htm or whatever.

Amd one other thing, when you list extra files on the Internet, Files screen, make sure 'Include Standard Files' is ticked. Otherwise your standard files won't get updated and uploaded.

I've followed your instructions, and done a forced upload after I had uploaded the wallboard2.htm file to my website.



However the wallboad2.htm page still shows the tags and not the data

The main index page is fine and gets updated correctly.

It looks fine to me. Perhaps you fixed something since posting.

Incidentally, in the weather folder on the PC where all my files are I have a wallboard2T.htmtmp which seems to contain data which appears to correspond with the current readings So what am i doing wrong ?

You've not done anything wrong. That's what I was trying to explain in my previous post. The TMP file is the file that Cumulus creates after processing the T files (with the <#webtags> in). Cumulus then uploads the TMP file (without the TMP) to your webserver. It does this also if you list 'extra' files as you have with wallboard.

OK - in the internet section I changed the local file to point to the file in my post above and that seems to of fixed it ????!!!!

Now to see if it updates !

No, that will break it completely!

Leave it as it was: Local filename - F:\Micro Heli - new web site\weather\wallboard2T.htm
Remote filename - weather/wallboard2.htm
