191 build 966 doesn't start on Vista

Hello - I've just updated from version 1.9.0 to 1.9.1 build 966 on Windows Vista SP2. When I start Cumulus from the start menu, no window is displayed. If I look with task manager, cumulus.exe is running. If I start it using "Run as Administrator", Cumulus appears to run as normal, downloading data from my Watson station and showing the main window. Any ideas why I can't run Cumulus as a normal user - the same user that installed it? Thanks in advance for any help offered.

There's no reason it shouldn't start as a normal user under Vista. Which folder have you installed it in?

Hi Steve, I accepted the defaults during the installation and it appears to have installed in C:\Program Files\Cumulus.

the quickest way round it, i would suggest, is right click, go to properties, and select to "run as administrator"

The readme advises installing outside Program Files on Vista and Windows 7. I've changed the default in the latest installer, but it would pick up your existing location if upgrading.

Installing to Program Files shouldn't cause the problem you're seeing, but it may depend on the security settings on your system. You could either try moving it to see if that helps, or circumvent it as suggested by setting 'run as administrator' permanently.

I followed the instructions for moving to C:\Cumulus and installed 191 build 967. All now appears to be well. Thank you all for your help.

It's interesting that installing to Program Files can apparently cause more problems than just the nuisance of not being able to find your data files. I think it must be down to security settings, as normally it would run OK, but Windows would hide your data.
