New to Cumulus and weather websites

Post by spencer17 »

Hi all,
my name is Karl and I live in Teanassie (near Beauly).
It's not even on the OS maps but if you look for Breakachy you will find the School, that's where I live.
I've installed a Maplin N96GY and it works fine so far.

But now the trouble starts.
I also have a website and want to display the weather and link it to weather networks.
All I get on the website is a gray page with no content. Not even gauges without any content.

Attached are 2 screenshots: website and Cumulus settings.

Btw: great software and a nice bunch of people here!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Karl

Hi Karl,

Welcome to the forum

I am guessing the directory should just be Weather

If you go to http://www.kf-photo.co.uk/ you will see Cumulus has dumped some files in the root, which means it could not change to the directory you specify

Ps -- Teanassie is not too far away from me! (about 50 miles)

...and to add to that, I think the grey screen you refer to is the Silverlight Cumulus Realtime application. If you turn on your browser's error console, you'll see:

Error: Unhandled Error in Silverlight 2 Application
Code: 2104
Category: InitializeError
Message: Could not download the Silverlight application. Check web server settings

Source File: http://www.kf-photo.co.uk/weather/CumulusRealtime.html
Line: 53

This probably indicates that your server is not configured properly for Silverlight applications. You either need to correct that, or if you don't have the necessary access, a trick that others have used is to rename the application from CumulusRealtime.xap to CumulusRealtime.txt, and change the code in the CumulusRealtime.html which loads it to match.

Thanks Steve and David.
Renaming the xap int txt and edit the html worked, but now I get the Sanday weather displayed?
Do I have to go to "Files" in the internet settings and define which files I want to upload, or does Cumulus automatically upload the files?

You only need to worry about the files section if you have customisation. If you just wish the standard setup it should be very simple. Your screenshots suggest you are almost there with the setup

There is quite a bit of help on this already, and quite detailed. Either check the help file in Cumulus or the wiki...

The first paragraph of the readme says:
Edit the file CumulusRealtime.xml to set the options. You will
need to change the "realtimeURL" and "sitename" at the very
least - unless you actually want to display my data!

This might be a 'suck-eggs' comment for some of you, but if you get a blank screen, or an error then your webserver might not have a Mime type entry for Silverlight (.xap).

To get CumulusRealtime working you only need the .xap mime type, but for Silverlight hosting completeness you need:
# .xap application/x-silverlight-app
# .xaml application/xaml+xml
# .xbap application/x-ms-xbap

Renaming the CumulusRealtime.xap to a .txt file will work of course :-)
