Hello,

Last week we had a power outage that lasted for about two days. When the power came back on FTP on Cumulus did not work and gives the error message:

Code: Select all

FTP Error: FTP component not connected
when I try to do a manual update.

Here is the full message from the manual web update:

Already disconnected!
I have tried re-installing Cumulus, re-starting my computer and my server, and re-installing the firmware on my server.

This is my setup:
  • Server: Zyxel NSA 210

The manual update screen isn't really much help for diagnosing ftp problems. Please turn on ftp logging, and look at the ftplog.txt file.

Hi,

Here is the FTP log file (look all the way on the bottom where it says 8:27):
ftplog.txt
Here is my complete setup list (because the last one got cut off somehow):
  • Computer: Dell XPS m1330 with Windows Vista
  • Router: Actiontec M1000 with firmware version QA01.5-3.60.3.0.8.1-M1000
  • Weather station: Oregon Scientific WMR968
  • Cumulus: 1.9.1 beta (build 966)
Thanks again!

It's hard to say what's going on as your server doesn't say much, but it looks like your server terminated the connection. Do I understand correctly that it's your server, so you could presumably obtain some logging from that end? It's also possible that your power outage left some corrupt files, you could try deleting all of the generated and temporary files, both in Cumulus and on the server.

Hi again,

Here is what my server's log looks like:
log.PNG
It basically says that Cumulus is connecting fine and disconnecting fine, but the time in-between login and logout is much shorter that it is normally.

Also, I had already tried deleting the files that Cumulus uploads to my server.

Thanks again!

Can't help with your FTP problem (except to make sure you have re-powered EVERYTHING at your place in the normal order you do so)....but....

<snipped cos it was done :D >

Isn't there a more detailed level of logging than that? I'm limited at the Cumulus end by the component I use.

There is a more detailed log. Here it is:
127.0.0.1_20101127.txt
It says something about "keroro FTP," I don't know what that's about. This is the log for the day when the power first came on.

I hope this is what you wanted.

Well, I was rather hoping that as you run your own FTP server, that you would be able to obtain some diagnostics from it that would help you diagnose your problem (i.e. a trace of the commands and responses as seen from the server end). I'm afraid I have no idea what that file is.

I've added a bit more ftp logging to the next build, perhaps that will throw some light on the problem.

Steve,

I just downloaded the new build (667) and turned on FTP logging to see what it said. Here is the file:
ftplog.txt
Thanks so much for your help!

It looks like your server disconnects when asked to do the first rename:

13:59:11:078 Renaming /weather/iCumulus/index.htmltmp to /weather/iCumulus/index.html
13:59:11:078 ! HighLevelAsync 0
13:59:11:078 FTP Error: FTP component not connected

I don't really know what to suggest; it looks like a server problem. You could try removing your 'extra' uploads, and see if the 'standard' files get uploaded OK. The standard upload works differently; it changes directory first.

Hi Steve,

Sorry about the delay. I got Cumulus to upload the standard files to my web site by having it stop trying to upload the extra files (iCumulus, etc...). I still have to figure out how to make those files upload...

Thanks for your help!

I think that either you have a problem on your server related to your extra files (less likely) or you have configured your path incorrectly so your server doesn't like the full path name (more likely). Try using a relative path (i.e. without a leading slash).

Is there any thing different about how the extra files are uploaded compared to the standard files? Also, when I do a manual update iCumulus or any other file that is uploaded first will be updated, but all the other files won't be updated. I just thought that you would like to know that.

Thanks for your help!
