Current readings are:-

UV:- 0 (Sorry its a cloudy morning here this morning - might need to try again when the sun comes out)
Light:- 3.08K Lux

It looks a bit odd. It looks like they have increased the size of the history entry to fit the new data in, possibly by 4 bytes. I'm surprised that you're getting sensible results from Cumulus.

Yeah everything seems ok, I was kind of surprised when I first plugged it in too - all data except the UV and light are displayed in Cumulus without any issues.

Assuming the first 16 bytes are the same as the old format, then you'll get away with it when running 'live', but data from the logger after Cumulus has been stopped for a while will be garbage. I can see some odd things in the diags files caused by this.

Ok I now have UV readings now, here is the diags file with UV if your interested.

Current readings:-
UV:- 1
Light:- 5.76K Lux

So do you think that I shouldn't run this weather station on Cumulus until a solution has been implemented?

It would be OK only if it were running all the time. As soon as it tries to use history data, it will get garbage, which may or may not be detected and discarded.

What do you have the station logger interval set to?

I think I can see where it's storing the UV and solar data, by the way.

I have the update interval set to 5 minutes.

That's excellent you can the UV and light readings, I'll stop sending the diag files.

I'll knock up a test version and send it to you, possibly tomorrow (it's 2130 here currently).

Thanks for your help.

Hi Glen, Any comments/reviews of the station? Is it a better station than the WH1080 or WH2080? Is it worth the extra money?

Regards, Ian

Ian,

In the past I have owned the WH1081, WH2081 and now the WH3081 and I personally believe that this unit is my favourite out of all the FineOffset weather stations.

Here are some pros and cons for this weather station.

PROS
1. Solar panel to run external sender unit/I believe the solar panel charges the batteries too? But need to confirm this (I even tested by removing the batteries all together and to my surprise the unit still sends signals, handy when your batteries are low).
2. Of course the new light and UV readings.
3. The console has a inbuilt stand.
4. Low battery notifications for console and external receiver.
5. Wind direction and wind speed sensors are the same as previous weather stations - this makes it easy to source parts if needed.

CONS
1. Unit doesn't display the current rain rate, I miss this feature which I recall being on my WH1081 (Don't worry Cumulus is smart enough to calculate this).
2. Unit displays readings every 48 seconds for temperature, humidity, wind and rain other readings light and UV are updated every 60 seconds - I was hoping as this is a new unit that the update interval would be improved.
3. Light reading is displayed in lux or fc, most weather stations display light readings in W/m2.

I just want to say hats off to Steve for all the hard work and time he has spent incorporating the WH3081 to Cumulus, Steve has been extremely willing and dedicated to adding these features. You should see these additions in the current beta version today - beta 968, thanks Steve - excellent job!

Overall I think the WH3081 is a excellent addition and yes I think this station is better than all previous stations produced by FineOffset, If anyone else has any other questions about the WH3081 please feel free to ask.

Glen

I don't think any Fine Offset stations display rain rate? I know they definitely don't make it available to software, but I didn't think they even displayed it. Mine doesn't seem to.
