Re: WH3080/3081
A quick hello from a new 3080 owner. I've retired my old Thermor unit (transmission really glitchy due to corrosion on the pcb) and after some deliberation sprung for a shiny new 3080. Thus far, very impressed with the unit and now running Cumulus with it.
For reference, it was purchased off ebay, from the German merchant Froggit.de; cheaper than Signatrol and no ridiculous Northern Ireland carriage charge.

Well, with the faulty sensor on mine, in all due fairness to signatrol, i emailed them, and i have had a reply today (bank holiday) stating i will have a replacement sensor in the post tomorrow, fair play to them indeedy!
@dpmiller was it cheaper AFTER the 20% discount code you could have used from here? (£103 inc p&p)

Re: WH3080/3081
Signatrol's NI shipping policy (yes, we're in the UK) put me off dealing with them tbh. I ended up paying £108 inc shipping, arrived in a few days.

Re: WH3080/3081
I'm looking at buying a WH3031.
My current system displays a 24 hour rainfall reading, but it's a sliding window (running) value.
I need to do observations at 1700 hours, and my current station only shows a 24-hour running value, i.e., I can never know how much rain has fallen since 1700 hour on the previous day except *right on* 1700 hours.
I had a previous el cheapo system that reset its "24 hour" value each midnight, so I offset its clock to make it think that 1700 hours actual was midnight.
Is it possible to command the WH3031 to begin its 24-hour reading *from a particular time* - either the actual 2359 epoch or an offset value to meet my 1700 epoch?
Cheers,
Ian.

Re: WH3080/3081
Hi Ian,
Yes, that seems to be a difference between the 108x and 308x series. The 108x displays a rolling "24 hour" value (actually I noticed just yesterday that it was reporting the rain over a period slighly over 24 hours - it corrected itself on the hour) but it seems that the 308x is different and resets the "24 hour" rain value at midnight.
So I think that it can do what you require if you offset the clock accordingly. But surely you could just obtain the data from the log file and/or Cumulus anyway?
Cheers, Alan.

Re: WH3080/3081
Yes, I could retrieve data, but the point of having the terminal/display panel that's supplied with the system is that you have at-a-glance readouts without having to start up/connect an external device (PC/Laptop/smartphone) to find out how much rain there's been.
Thanks for the info, I'll probably be buying one in the next few days.
Cheers,
Ian.

I have set up a WS3080 from Velleman I think it is the samme as WH3080
and I have install cumulus 1.9.2 and all is working very vell the only problem I have is that the sunshine hours is wrong
on a day with no sunshine I have 4,5 hours of sunshine and the yellow sun on cumulus is on many time when it is not sunshine

You need to experiment with the solar settings on the station settings screen (the 'threshold' and the 'transmission factor' etc). Don't hope to achieve perfect results, though; deciding whether the sun is shining or not from the data provided by the sensor is no easy matter.

I have tried that and after some setting it is improve, if I get a good setting that will work I will give the settings here
Thanks for the answer

Re: WH3080/3081
Hi Claus
I have been fine tuning my 3080 solar readings since mid-November 2011, I’m now about as near as I can get for accuracy within the limits of 3080. The following might help you.
Transmission left at default 0.80. Tried altering that but a 5% change doesn’t give a 5% result, presumably because you are moving along a bell curve. Threshold 85%, changed from default which I believe was 75%. I have reverse engineered the cumulus formula in an excel spread sheet to see when cumulus decides whether the sun is shining or not. This has enabled me to match my observations to cumulus results when I alter settings. Also I use 35 w/m2 as my minimum level before sunshine recorded, this stops cumulus recording sunlight before the sun breaks the horizon. Also noticed that the console displays UV only when the sun above horizon, so this helped in working out 35w/m2. If you multiply the console lux by 7.9 you can get to get a watts/m2 to see what your display is showing. Eg 10.00lux X 7.9 equals 79 watts/m2, 15.5 lux X 7.9 equals 123 w/m2. I use copies of the monthly log files to see what cumulus is coming up with against my observations.
Bear in mind, from this forum I get the impression 3080 solar units will not all give the same results using the same settings. Mines still overdoing it, I got 354w/m2 at 11.00 am yesterday, somewhat high. I may have to adjust the .0079 value that turns lux to watts/m2. However it's ok for now.
Regards
Colin
