Rin spikes when clearing W8681 memory

Hi Steve
Using Cumulus 1.8.8 Build 877 with Watson W-8681
I have had anomalous spikes in the rain total readings and found these occur when clearing the memory of the W8681 which fills to 75% approx every 14 days.
I have found that if I close Cumulus and remove USB lead to the computer no error occurs. I forgot to do this last week resulting in rain rate of 9806mm/hr, daily and hourly rain of 817mm which throw out monthly and year to date figures.
I have errors in September and October to lesser extent which occurred on dry days so know the extent of the errors.
My question is which files do I need to edit to show correct entries for uploading and all time records?

You need to edit your dayfile.txt file (with cumulus closed down). Format is here. http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Dayfile.txt Use Notepad or notepad++ Or use Toolbox which has a built in file editor for Cumulus ....http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Toolbox

You can edit your all time records within Cumulus in the Edit menu

on a side note, can I ask why you clear your memory? There is no need to as the console will just loop round and start reusing it, and Cumulus handles that no problem

Yes, it's not a good idea to clear the station memory, and doing it while Cumulus is running is almost guaranteed to give bad readings.

The rain totals are calculated from the daily totals in dayfile.txt. You can correct all-time records using the all-time record editor from the edit menu.

Hi David and Steve,
Thanks for the help.
I had assumed recordings would stop when memory was full
