Whats the difference
I have tried to read through, and failed to see the difference between these two stations on Maplins
this one, the one i have had twice, and failed
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=223254
for £119
and this one, on offer
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=228825
both seem exactly the same, unless i am missing some spec on one of them?

Re: Whats the difference
The more expensive one has a DCF auto setting clock -- waste of time really as Cumulus uses the PC time anyway.
They are both re badged Fine Offset style devices. Just so happens one is on a great offer.

Which is of no advantage if you're running Cumulus or other software that uses the PC clock.

Re: Whats the difference
the new one has come through, set it all up, have decided to start from scratch, no history etc, due to the previous rain problems.
Everything is running ok, except the sunrise/sunset dawn/dusk thing, which is for some reason showing that the sun is rising in the afternoon lol? have double checked my location, that seems ok, pc clock and cumulus clock are all ok,. any ideas?

Re: Whats the difference
Without checking it I would feel it's your location details within the station settings. I know you've checked this already but perhaps a further check is required. Try this http://www.earthtools.org/

Re: Whats the difference
The sunrise and sunset times get updated when you start Cumulus and then on the hour. So if you haven't restarted Cumulus since you entered your co-ordinates, you can either do that or wait for the hour - which is about now.
If that's not the answer and your PC time zone is correct, then I'm stumped.

PC timezone steve, hadn't realised the CMOS battery had gone flat, and since the restart the clock had reset the timezone, cheers mate,

Re: Whats the difference
I was just about to post that the TZ must be the answer, because (having checked) it does also reset the sun times after you enter your co-ordinates.

Re: Whats the difference
Quite unusual that the CMOS battery failing didn’t cause all of the BIOS settings to revert back to the original BIOS dates and settings…. but I’ve learnt that even the most improbable is possible with computers

Re: Whats the difference
Yeah usually, you have to go into bios to do the settings, or simply reset to defaults, but not this time, oh well, this one is staying on permanently now

Yes - and no.nking wrote:Quite unusual that the CMOS battery failing didn’t cause all of the BIOS settings to revert back to the original BIOS dates and settings…. but I’ve learnt that even the most improbable is possible with computers
Many PC's these days are run 'as is' i.e. without any changes needing to be made to the BIOS so, if yu DO need a battery replacement, then you won;t even have to go anywhere near the BIOS.
Downside of this is that many people forget thay they have made one change in the BIOS and, because everything seems to work OK at first, they forget about the one little tweak they made!
Punctuation is the difference between 'Let's eat, grandma' and 'Let's eat grandma'

Re: Whats the difference
Is ok, know what i am doing in the bios anyway, i may be TOTALLY useless with websites lol, but after 12 years of building and repairing computers, know me way around them thankfully
