Realtime Text File Not Generating On Start-up
Steve,
I have came across a little problem with the generation of the "Realtime.txt" file within version 1.9.1.962. In Cumulus I have chosen to save all files locally on my machine rather than using FTP and when I close then start up Cumulus or just open Cumulus for the first time the "Realtime.txt" file is not generated.
I have found a way to start this process, I open Cumulus then simply open Configuration > Internet and then deselect the "Enable Realtime" check box then re-check it - this then starts the generation of the realtime file.
Glen

What realtime settings are you using - just 'enable realtime' selected?

Just had a look at the settings and I had "auto update" and "enable realtine" selected, should I have the "auto update" checked?

Re: Realtime Text File Not Generating On Start-up
I'm running build 962 on the Vantage Pro 2, and am a new user, so I may be making a cockpit error here. Mine makes the local realtime.txt file, but it doesn't get copied along with the other files when I do a web update. Is the realtime.txt file supposed to be copied, or is there another file that is created from it? If this is what is fixed, I'll get the new beta. However, I am unsure if my customized web pages will be affected in any way with this beta update.steve wrote:I've fixed this in the next build.
Thanks,
John

It should, if you ask for it.shotsky wrote:Is the realtime.txt file supposed to be copied
What was fixed was the case where you want the realtime.txt file to be created, but not to be FTP'd anywhere. It wasn't being created. If this is what is fixed
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I have Auto Update on, Interval 5 minutes, Enable Realtime
Enable Realtime
Enable Realtime FTP
Realtime.txt FTP
Realtime interval 15 secs.
The realtime.txt file never appears on the web site, but the other files all do.
I'm probably doing something stupid, but I can't see anything wrong.
Thanks,
John

Re: Realtime Text File Not Generating On Start-up
You may have an incorrect upload directory specified. It's possible for 'normal' ftp to work (by coincidence) with an incorrect directory, but realtime ftp will fail if the directory is incorrect. Turn on ftp logging and see if there are any errors in the realtimeftplog.txt.shotsky wrote:The realtime.txt file never appears on the web site, but the other files all do.

Re: Realtime Text File Not Generating On Start-up
I have the realtime.txt file explicitly listed in the files to upload, going to C:\CumulusWeb, which is the web page, and realtime checked. I have the Images folder listed one folder below this. I assume Realtime.txt does not go into the images folder.steve wrote:You may have an incorrect upload directory specified. So, then I stopped the server, closed Cumulus, started Cumulus, restarted the server, and no change - realtime.txt is just not passed to the web. Note that originally, with 1.90, it was working. It stopped when I updated to the beta. I am going to update to the 964 build next, then carry on from there.
I do not have the Silverlight applet installed, so it is just a basic setup.
Thanks,
John

Sorry, I don't understand, I think you'll have to show me. The realtime.txt file gets uploaded without it being listed anywhere, as long as you have all the boxes ticked. What is C:\Cumulusweb - are you hosting the web pages locally? Are you just copying files rather than using FTP?shotsky wrote:I have the realtime.txt file explicitly listed in the files to upload, going to C:\CumulusWeb, which is the web page, and realtime checked. Re: Realtime Text File Not Generating On Start-up
I host my own web page, and I use FTP (my own ftp server) to upload to C:\CumulusWeb, which is the actual webpage. Originally, I didn't have the realtime.txt file listed explicitly, I added that as a way to see if I could get it to copy the file. I'll remove it and just leave the realtime checkbox checked along with the standard files, which is how I had it before.steve wrote:Sorry, I don't understand, I think you'll have to show me. There is an error in the ftp log, but I don't know what it means. It is:

Re: Realtime Text File Not Generating On Start-up
I don't know what it means, either, but it's coming from your ftp server, so can you not get it to tell you? My guess would still be an incorrect ftp directory.

Re: Realtime Text File Not Generating On Start-up
But there is only one place to specify the ftp folder, and all the other files are copied correctly. The only thing not working is the realtime function. I will copy the realtime.txt file over manually and see if it show up on the web page.steve wrote:I don't know what it means, either, but it's coming from your ftp server, so can you not get it to tell you? Re: Realtime Text File Not Generating On Start-up
But as I said, it is possible for 'normal' ftp to work and realtime to fail. Normal ftp changes directory, but realtime stays in the root and constructs a full path name. If the CD fails, but it happens to be in the correct directory anyway, you don't notice the problem. But the invalid path causes the realtime ftp to specify a non-existent path.shotsky wrote:But there is only one place to specify the ftp folder, and all the other files are copied correctly.
Perhaps you could show me your settings?

I'm not sure which settings you want to see. When the site updates, the FTP Progress window displays this:steve wrote:But as I said, it is possible for 'normal' ftp to work and realtime to fail. Logging in to shotskyftp.gotdns.com
Changing directory to C:\CumulusWeb
Uploading standard files
Sending html pages
Changing directory to images
Sending graph files
Logging out
C:\CumulusWeb is the web page. shotskyftp.gotdns.com is the ftp server. I would assume realtime.txt would go to C:\CumulusWeb. The FTP 'user' Cumulus has a home folder of C:\CumulusWeb, and also has access to C:\CumulusWeb\Images. It has full read/write access to both.
My FTP server log shows this error: (I do have FTP rename enabled)
> 227 Entering Passive Mode (172,20,0,100,117,49). [172.20.0.100 -> (67.189.21.25) : 50885 (23-11-2010 10:19:10)]
< STOR C:%5CCumulusWeb/realtime.txttmp [172.20.0.100 <- (67.189.21.25) : 50885 (23-11-2010 10:19:10)]
< RNFR C:%5CCumulusWeb/realtime.txttmp [172.20.0.100 <- (67.189.21.25) : 50885 (23-11-2010 10:19:11)]
> 501 Invalid Parameter [172.20.0.100 -> (67.189.21.25) : 50885 (23-11-2010 10:19:11)]
I think the error is because realtime.txttmp is not actually there to be renamed.
How do I set it up to not use FTP at all? I tried unchecking the FTP stuff, but it still used the server. Can I use RealTime while not using the FTP server?
I'm going to reboot my system and see if something resets in the ftp server.
Thanks,
John
