Yes, the total rain counter went up from 18.6 to 19.8 over this period:

22/11/10,13:26,7.5,89,5.8,1.6,6.0,338,0.0,0.0,1008.8,18.6,22.6,28,4.5,7.5,7.5,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:27,7.4,89,5.7,3.8,6.9,334,0.0,0.0,1009.0,18.9,22.6,28,6.9,6.4,7.4,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:28,7.4,89,5.7,4.5,8.3,339,0.1,0.0,1009.0,19.2,22.6,28,8.3,6.1,7.4,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:29,7.3,89,5.6,3.8,9.2,347,0.1,0.0,1009.0,19.2,22.6,28,9.2,6.3,7.3,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:30,7.2,89,5.5,7.6,13.6,350,0.1,0.0,1008.8,19.2,22.6,28,13.6,4.9,7.2,0.0,0

22/11/10,13:32,7.0,89,5.3,3.8,13.6,355,0.1,0.0,1008.9,19.5,22.6,28,8.3,6.0,7.0,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:33,7.0,89,5.3,4.5,13.6,357,0.0,0.0,1009.0,19.5,22.6,28,9.8,5.7,7.0,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:34,6.9,89,5.2,5.4,13.6,358,0.0,0.0,1008.9,19.5,22.6,28,7.6,5.2,6.9,0.0,0

22/11/10,13:36,6.8,89,5.1,4.5,13.6,9,0.0,0.0,1008.9,19.5,22.6,28,7.6,5.5,6.8,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:37,6.7,89,5.0,2.2,13.6,14,0.0,0.0,1008.9,19.5,22.6,28,5.4,6.7,6.7,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:38,6.7,89,5.0,3.1,13.6,19,0.0,0.0,1008.9,19.5,22.6,28,5.4,6.0,6.7,0.0,0
22/11/10,13:39,6.7,90,5.2,3.8,13.6,20,0.0,0.0,1008.9,19.8,22.6,28,5.4,5.6,6.7,0.0,0

so it should in theory have recorded 1.2 mm of rain, rather than zero. So I think something odd must have happened to your rain counter in the times between the logs, because otherwise this would be a very fundamental bug and no-one would have any rain recorded at all.

Could you please zip up your diags files and attach them?

Baffling. Could you attach your cumulus.ini file please? Take out any passwords etc.

heres the ini Steve. Glad it is baffling you in a way. At least it doesn't look like I have goofed that way.

Just a thought.... it couldn't be because it has installed in the C:\Program Files (x86) could it? I know Win7 can do some odd things even though I am system admin and therefore God on this pc.

If so, is there a procedure to move it without losing everything? I notice that to find the ini files etc, I have to clcik on 'Compatibility Mode' in Explorer. Weird.

Thanks Nick

The simplest thing to do on Windows 7 is to follow the advice in the readme file and install to C:\Cumulus or similar. Ignoring that and installing to Program Files can cause a number of difficulties. It's unlikely to be the cause of this particular problem, though.

Your rainfall problem is caused by your rainfall multiplier of 0.01 (when rounded).

RainMult=0.00999999977648258

The default is 1, and I can't think of any way that it could have become that value unless you actually changed it. Assuming you did change it, what are you trying to achieve with that multiplier?

Hi Steve

LOL.... I have absolutely no idea at all why that is changed to 0.01. I certainly don't remember doing it for any reason. I guess I must have done it accidentally (mouse focus in wrong place and not looking??)

Okay I have corrected that... and... moved the app to C:\Cumulus. Restarted everything, and guess what? (yeah you know) The rain has now registered from this morning.

I am honestly so grateful for your help; I promise I will try and leave you alone for at least a day or two now.

(you wouldn't believe I work for a software company)

many thanks again Steve

0.01 is the minimum value (as zero makes no sense), so if you somehow accidentally set it to zero, it would have changed itself to 0.01.

Hi Steve. Yep that is exact;y what I would have done. I probably fiddles with it to try and add in the total rainfall as an offset (silly idea) and then reset it to zero rather than 1.0. Makes perfect sense.

Okay... new question....

When I installed the new station, it was straight out of the box, assembling the parts indoors, and then attaching it usb to test, then, taking it al outside permanently. Reasonable way to do it, except of course, the outside temp recording was what it was indoors when I set it all going. Result is, that on the website and on the software, the Temp Min/Max/Avg graph starts with an outside temp of 24 degrees. I have edited the Nov10 txt file and removed the first few entries. I had sort of hoped that it would then inform the graph and correct it, in turn correcting the website. This does not appear to have happened so far. Have I missed a step? Does the graph grow forever as the days pass or refresh monthly/yearly or something.

I am pretty much getting to grips with all of this and very pleased so far, as well as very grateful for the level of support you provide.

Thanks.... Nick White

The min/max/avg graph is drawn from the data in dayfile.txt, so you'll need to edit that.

Hi Steve... its the problem guy again. Sorry. :o)

Okay a bit of background. Station is mounted on a 3 metre aluminium pole above my roof. I hadn't bargained for the need for the rain gauge to be attached up top with everything else (haven't actually measured the cable to see how far away I could get it). For me, the result is thta when it is very windy (and has been this week) the pole sways back and fore quite a lot and has been giving me some amazing amounts of rain as it throws the paddles on the rain gauge about.

Okay...when the weather calms, I will take it all down and reposition it to resolve the sway issue (or buy a 4 meter steel pole).

Meanwhile I have a problem. I edited the logs as far as I could and removed all the rain for the 1st Dec (as we only had light snow anyway) and re-saved the logs. All has looked okay up to midnight last night when I went to bed having checked the trends. This morning however, the 'Temp Min/Max/Avg' and 'Daily Rain' seem to have found some spurious dates into the future (2019). I have looked at the logs and cannot see any entries like that. I have attached my logs in the hope that you may see what is wrong here.

Unrelated, when I take the system down to move it, do I just take batteries out of the main unit and disconnect the USB, so that it doesn't record the 'crap' that happens in the move? If I do this will it reset itself and will I be back to day one again?

Many thanks... (can send more files if you need)

You don't seem to have attached any files. Dayfile.txt will be useful, and possibly also the diags files. Please zip them.

I'm not an expert on moving Fine Offset stations, but I think that what you need to do is unplug the sensors. Powering off the console won't stop the rain counter being affected.
