Cumulus Support

Ok so my station is down at the moment, high winds pulled the standard stevenson (sp?) screen off, and the electronics got wet, killing the station.

Went back to napkins and got the entire station replaced (such nice people)

I can't put it up yet due to other work and bad weather, I have not got the time to build something (nor the skill), I was wondering if anyone else out there had a quick fix, to keep this screen in place in high winds?

What about an elastic band over the top and round the base of the screen, where it attaches to the arm?

Oh yes, I see what's happened there; I thought it was the name of a local shop ("Mr Napkin's").

Good idea; I was going to suggest a similar thing but using waterproof gaffer tape, but an elastic band is a much better idea.

I'm surprised that the wind managed to take it off; mine must have been out in stronger winds and has never come off. I wonder if it's because this one is on a roof, so the wind is being diverted upwards?

That ain't a bad idea actually, i must admit the winds were unusual for around here (65-70mph) but i would have thought it could have survived that, makes me glad i didnt have one in the shetland islands!!

Steve, yeah it could be, i was thinking of dropping the sensor a few feet lower than its previous location, the only thing i dont want to do, is put it too close to the roof, with reflective heat during the summer

same idea but use a couple of cable ties
the rubber bands probably wont last to long due to changes in temperature & UV affecting them

they had crossed my mind also, but not to CLAMP it down, just a loose tie

I have dropped the unit down slightly from the top of the pole and added a 5mm ali tube (I had lying around) strut from the top of the pole and fixed to the screen with the usual cable tie. Thus triangulating the mount... so far coped with 70 Mph gusts
