Wunderground website is now reporting 0.24 in = 6.09600 millimetres
and the widget is showing 0.24in but 0.6mm not 6.0mm just looks like you need to change mm to cm then it would be correct
I do not do any kind of editing - simply report data as provided by Weather Underground.
If you hit the 'Current conditions XML' in the right panel on your Wunderground display you'll see the data sent to the widget (currently your page says 0.5 mm rain, but data sent is 0.02 in/0.1 mm)

I assume this will work on a normal PC as well as a late model Nokia that has the wgz file type associations?
The widget has a 'Settings' page where you specify the url of your realtime.txt file.
No: it will NOT run on a PC - it's a widget for a Nokia mobile.

Right now it is version 0.1, alpha level, but I'd be happy to share it with any of you, and to receive feedback.
I'd love to try it. Just got a Nokia N8 for my wife. I have cumulus 1.90 build 958 and upload to Wunderground. Do I need anything else?
Hi Dane, works great. I would prefer that it didn't mention the Imperial mesurements, as it is putting the metric in brackets, but Metric is the more important to me and all that I want.
<temperature_string>80.2 F (26.8 C)</temperature_string>
<temp_f>80.2</temp_f>
<temp_c>26.8</temp_c>
Anyway that you can get it to just grab the "C" value?
I do know that it just pulls the info from WU from the "Current Conditions" XML file, so I'm thinking of contacting WU support. My wife (her phone) would like different formatting to make it look nicer (easier to read?). I only asked her as you were asking for feedback ;) .
Of course when I contact WU, I won't mention anything of a widget application for the phone, so I'm not sure how I'm going to get them to make changes, as they may ask "What for?".
And yes, I have found that they convert their inches to cm for rain but then place "mm" after it..... :bash:
<precip_today_string>3.57 in (9.1 mm)</precip_today_string>
<precip_today_in>3.57</precip_today_in>
<precip_today_metric>9.1</precip_today_metric>
Will see if they can fix it.
Thanks again!

Hi Michael,
thanks for your feedback.

Of course I could produce temperatures in C only. And then the next guy wants F... etc.
That's why I just gave you everything in the first version.

I guess the solution is to create some (more) variables that one can set on the Settings page.
Will look into it while you have your chat with WU.
(Hope you get an intelligent response to the cm/mm issue)

This is what I sent to Weather Underground:
Error in XML I found that the "Current Conditions" XML feed has the following:

<precip_today_string>3.57 in (9.1 mm)</precip_today_string>
<precip_today_in>3.57</precip_today_in>
<precip_today_metric>9.1</precip_today_metric>
<history_url>http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... istory_url>

...it measures the rain in inches then converts it to centermeters but then puts mm after it in the Precip_today_in.
In the Rapid Fire page (http://www.wunderground.com/swf/Rapid_F ... =INTPALME2) it displays the (<precip_today_metric>9.1</precip_today_metric>) value corectly as 9.1cm.
In my history page (http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =INTPALME2) it displays a more accurate 90.7mm correctly as well as the PWS sticker (above the PWS Map).

The XML needs to be corrected. Could I suggest, instead of changing:
<precip_today_string>3.57 in (9.1 mm)</precip_today_string>
to:
<precip_today_string>3.57 in (9.1 cm)</precip_today_string>
Could you make it:
<precip_today_string>3.57 in (90.7 mm)</precip_today_string>
<precip_today_in>3.57</precip_today_in>
<precip_today_metric>90.7</precip_today_metric> .

Thank you for reading my suggestion.
Michael.
I'll let you know of their response.
Dane, it would be fantastic if you could have it in the Settings to select Metric or Imperial (or a combination if there was anyone that would choose such an option). The other way is to have separate downloads, but having the option in settings would be much nicer and more professional. Good thinking

Great work Dane  , excactly what I wanted. You clever  chap. Did you change the font? Even if you didn't, it looks better already. Must be because it's not so cluttered when you choose just C (centigrade or F).
However, the wind gusts are still in MPH, although WU only give MPH in the XML :
<wind_string>From the NW at 1.2 MPH Gusting to 2.2 MPH</wind_string>
<wind_dir>NW</wind_dir>
<wind_degrees>325</wind_degrees>
<wind_mph>1.2</wind_mph>
<wind_gust_mph>2.2</wind_gust_mph>

Any way that you can put in the choice of K (KMH) or M (MPH) in the settings and divide <wind_mph>1.2</wind_mph> and <wind_gust_mph>2.2</wind_gust_mph> by 1.60934? That would great.

I'll look into it - except I'll multiply rather than divide :)

Thanks Dane
Just installed the latest version
Seems WU does not convert properly 0.02 in = 0.508 millimetres :bash:

Code: Select all

<precip_today_string>0.02 in (0.1 mm)</precip_today_string>
<precip_today_in>0.02</precip_today_in>
<precip_today_metric>0.1</precip_today_metric>

<precip_today_in>0.02</precip_today_in>
<precip_today_metric>0.1</precip_today_metric>
You'll find the biggest differences when recording the lowest possible figures due to rounding off. Also I've found that they record it in cm but then display mm (see below). I've emailed WU, but they are yet to reply. What I think they are trying to record is the cm, but then putting mm after it (see below)
<precip_today_string>3.57 in (9.1 mm)</precip_today_string>
<precip_today_in>3.57</precip_today_in>
<precip_today_metric>9.1</precip_today_metric>
So .02 inch =0.0508cm, but I guess they round up to the nearest tenth, thus getting 0.1 cm, but then they go put mm behind it.
As you see my figures have 3.57 in = 9.1cm (again, they put mm :bash: ) which would put the 3.57 in actually at 90.678mm. Which is actually closer to my proper mm reading on Cumulus (can't tell you excactly right now becuase my computer blew up).
Checking my calculator.....WU would then put 0.02 in = 0.5098mm, damn close to the 0.508 it's ment to be.

...it makes you wonder how it is all converted hey? I believe Cumulus sends the information quite accurately. For example, my FO measures in .3mm. I then increase the area 3 times, then have to make a correction in Cumulus so that it reads 0.1mm. But you can't do a 1/3 multiplyer, just 0.33, so Cumulus would read it as 0.099mm. But does it get sent like that or does it then get converted to in? And even if WU get it at 0.099mm do they convert that whole number to inches (0.0038976 in), then round it to 0.01 in for their display? Then as it seems that inches is their primary measuring, they may convert the displayed number to mm (0.254mm)? And then they would just round it to 0.25mm? I'm not sure.
All I know is, I measure in lots of 0.1mm and WU get to 2 decimal places, and not even that close ether.
Also, when they get <precip_today_string>3.57 in (9.1 mm)</precip_today_string>, which is ment to be 91mm, in their sticker they provide a more accurate reading that goes a further 2 decimal places......go figure :?: And why don't they just give us the more accurate reading in the XML file? I feel ripped off now

It gets converted to the units required by WU; see http://wiki.wunderground.com/index.php/ ... d_Protocol

Update 2011-01-06 17:00:
CumulusW version 0.5 uploaded to first post of this thread.
New: precipitation: if M (mm) is specified, it is derived from the value in inches, multiplied by 25.4
(cannot wait for Wunderground to get this little thing sorted out...)
