Battery Change Tips

Hi - as a Newbie I've been following the historic threads with great interest - and as a result am planning a number of mods.

I've picked up various comments around transmitter battery changes and the impact on Cumulus data.

Can I draw upon your collective experience and ask for the 'ultimate guide'.

Things exercising my tiny mind from what I've read are:

- Leave Cumulus running or not when changing the battery?
- Disconnect the rainfall sensor lead first or just adjust through Cumulus the next day?
- Any routine maintenance tips to carry out whilst the battery is disconnected?

Many thanks in advance

Hi

Here is my two pence worth...
Leave Cumulus running or not when changing the battery?
It's not Cumulus running that is so important, more your station. If your station continues to receive data Cumulus will catchup when it restarts.
Disconnect the rainfall sensor lead first or just adjust through Cumulus the next day?
If you can, it is much easier to disconnect the cable -- rain adjustment can be a pain
Any routine maintenance tips to carry out whilst the battery is disconnected?
  • Definitely clean the rain collector. Remove the cover and check for insects, eggs, dirt etc. I think most people have fitted a mesh over the bottom to stop insects making a home inside!
  • Clean the connectors for all the cables; some WD40 on them
  • Check your instruments are still level, and the Weather vane still points North
that's a few ideas from me!
