An article in the local paper this week mentioned our Water Authority has a group of Community Weather Volunteers who record rainfall and submit it annually so they can ascertain rainfall patterns over a long period.
Becaus eof this I rang them this morning to see what their criteria were for joining this program.
When they found out I had my own weather station they were 'mildly' interested and suggested this would be suitable for their program.
Then he asked how long I had been using the weather station and how far back did my records go.
I said - automatic since 2002 - he sort of drew a breath in and said (really!) 'Interesting'. Then I said 'but my paper records go back to 1983 - would you be interested in these.....hello?.....hello???....anyone there?'
It took nearly 15-20 seconds and then he asked me to repeat the earliest year I had records for.
Bottom line - they want the data!
Guess it pays off in the long run to run with a hunch and offer it to those that can make use of it!

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.
