Serious Spike Of Rain

Is anyone getting extremely high rainfall rates in version 1.9.1 build 954? See below entry 19/10/10 at 05:38am - according to the data I had a 7066.8mm/h of rain (I'm sure I would be drowning if this really was the case), this is the second time this has happened at around the same time of morning and it hadn't been raining:-

19/10/10,05:37,6.6,90,5.1,0.0,2.5,0,0.0,0.0,1030.6,31.5,18.2,48,2.5,6.6,6.6,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,5.5,0,0.0
19/10/10,05:38,6.6,89,4.9,0.0,2.5,0,7066.8,588.9,1030.6,620.4,18.2,48,0.0,6.6,6.6,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,5.5,0,0.0
19/10/10,05:39,6.6,89,4.9,0.0,2.5,0,0.0,0.0,1030.6,31.5,18.2,48,1.1,6.6,6.6,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,5.5,0,0.0

I have recently upgraded my weather station from a WH1081 to a WH2081, are there any other users out there with this station that has this issue?

I have checked data physically on the weather station and no rain was recorded at 5:38am.

Please help...

The rain counter in the station jumped up from 31.5 to 620.4, so Cumulus recorded that amount of rain. It has checks for 'silly' amounts of rain, and reads the data again to make sure. The other data at the same time looks OK, so this wasn't a problem of completely corrupt data, or Cumulus reading the wrong memory location or whatever.

The rain counter subsequently went back down to the correct value again (which is why the station isn't showing it now), so presumably the high reading was caused by some sort of interference, in the same way that the temperature and wind spikes appear to happen.

So possibly some sort or radio interference with the weather station?

I think so, yes - see Gina's posts about her temperature spikes. The station's rain counter can suddenly jump up (and stay there) for a number of reasons, but in your case it went back down again, so this was clearly a temporary corruption. If it's happened at about the same time previously, then maybe something happens at that time which might be the cause?

Ok, weird - I have never had this issue in the past.

Here is the other spike I was talking about:-

This wasn't rain it was wind, see below a jump from 0 to 176.4km/h winds

At almost exactly the same time of day - that does point to some sort of interference from somewhere at that time. Central heating turning on, or something?

Not sure, something is clashing somewhere.

Steve have you seen the attached error, I get it every time I open Cumulus now. I have a feeling that it's because I have another weather application opened at the same time which is clashing - maybe this is why my figures are playing up.

I'd need to see the entire bugreport.txt file to know whether that's significant.

What kind of 'other weather application' are you running? Something else reading data from the same weather station?

No not from the same weather station, another weather station - I also have a WMR200 and have another application called 'Weather Station Data Logger' running at the same time as Cumulus - since the latest beta upgrade I haven't been able to open Cumulus when I have Weather Station Data Logger open first. In the past I didn't have any issues running/opening these applications at the same time.

At present to get around this by following this order - I close Weather Station Data Logger then opening Cumulus then re-opening Weather Station Data Logger - so maybe my weird data at 5:40am is caused by this? I don't know.

Please find attached my bugreport.txt

It's a USB error; the same one that someone with a La Crosse station was seeing. The answer in that case was to stop enabling the USB component for those stations, but obviously I can't do that for USB stations. So at the moment I don't know what the answer is - I'm not aware of anyone else with a USB station with the same problem; it may depend on exactly what type of other USB devices you have. It's not obvious whether this is anything to do with your data corruption.

This may not be the same problem, but I thought I would post the information just in case it could be useful. I assumed at the time this was a normal rain spike that has been posted about many times in the past.

I had a 6 inch plus spike of rain around 6 am yesterday. By luck, I caught it and corrected the amount by using the method posted in the FAQ before the next ten minute interval. A little while later, when I looked at the console, it was showing zero inches of rain which caught me by surprise. I stopped Cumulus and checked Easy Weather and it showed zero inches of rain.

Forget I said that; I was looking at the first entry in the bugreport.txt, it's possible that the change I did to the initialisation of the USB component has fixed that one. Looking at the latest entry in the file, I have absolutely no idea what that is; no Cumulus code is involved. I'll have to study it later and see if I can work out what it is.
