Can anyone tell me what the "wind run" figure on the software represents?

Thanks David, so my software is saying 73 miles for wind run now. Average wind is 5.4 mph, gust 17.4 miles. I'm not sure how it computes 73 miles?

So today, your wind has travelled 73 miles.
In my head I think of a spec of dust setting off at midnight, and assuming it never falls to the ground it has travelled 73 miles so far today based on the wind blowing it throughout the day

When I try to explain it, I use a balloon
I don't think I've actually documented anywhere that in this case the 'specific period' (as mentioned in the wiki) is
today. There used to be 'mouseover hints' for some of the less obvious items, but somehow they seem to have got lost; I'll look at reinstating them.

From Wikipedia:
"Wind run can help to determine the rate of evaporation of moisture over a particular area. It may also be useful in determining the height of waves that might be encountered on large bodies of water. Longer wind runs generate higher waves on open water. It can also be used to help in the placement of wind turbines."

Could be wind turbine power generation people use it in their studies
