Wind gauge on Watson

Post by toadstone »

I don't know if this has been discussed before but if the bearing on your wind gauge seizes or collapses, fear not its not the end.

You can very carefully prize off the cup assembly to reveal the bearing mounted on a shaft, the cup assembly fitting over the outside of the bearing. You will find that the plastic shaft has had it's end melted in order to retain the bearing. You need to pair off this plastic and then the old bearing will come off. I no know the bearing measurement to be 10mm OD and the shaft size to be 5mm thanks to my local bearing supplier, Macclesfield Bearings.

All you need to do is to put the new bearing on the shaft, you can if you wish use a very fine screw with washer to retain the bearing on the shaft but make sure its not too proud otherwise the cup assembly won't go on. Finally carefully push the cup assembly over the bearing and hey presto......... repaired.

Seems like last month there was a posting on bearing size. Good to know they can be repaired.
