Ambient WS 1090 Weather Station

Post by mminnis »

I downloaded the Cumulus software to use with the WS 1090 and it worked perfectly for the first three days. Today the software was opened and the pop up box "Downloading Data" came up and never completed the process. The software would not complete the download process and after several attempts, I uninstalled and reinstalled the software thinking that would solve the problem. It did not. What else can I try to get this software working again? Thanks for your help, Mike

I can't really give the full story from just the one file, but there are a couple of things to note from that one: First, it thinks this is the first time it has run as it can't find any of the data files. I note that you've installed under Program Files, despite the fact you're using Windows 7, but as it's on the H: drive, I guess that's not the Program Files, but one you've created yourself, so that should be OK.

Second, the data is coming 'out of sync':

10/12/2010 14:16:49.617 : Request EW data block, addr = 000000
10/12/2010 14:16:49.664 : EWUSB: EW startup data line 01 A1 02 80 20 A1 02 80 20
10/12/2010 14:16:49.664 : EWUSB: EW startup data line 02 55 AA 50 20 A1 12 50 20
10/12/2010 14:16:49.664 : EWUSB: EW startup data line 03 1E 47 08 4E 09 00 00 00
10/12/2010 14:16:49.664 : EWUSB: EW startup data line 04 85 00 00 24 00 00 30 03
10/12/2010 14:16:49.664 : EWUSB: Bad startup block 0, discarding. Byte 0 = A1 Byte 0 = 02

Cumulus can't make sense of the data - the line starting 55 AA should be the first line. I've seen this before; sometimes running Easyweather fixes it, if you have it installed. Otherwise I think a complete reset of the station is required.

Just to add that the other files you've sent me show the same.

Mike I have an Ambient station too running with Cumulus in W7. Cumulus works without a problem with the station so have confidence in Cumulus. Make sure you take note of the special W7 note at the top of this forum.

Make sure if you take the batteries out of the console then put them back in that you do not do anything with the console until the console has acquired the outside weather station.

Steve and Randy,

I had already done a complete reset of the weather station yesterday as I thought that would fix the problem. Easy weather is working fine. That came with the weather station. I will try and send the other files when Cumulus was working.

Thanks,
Mike

Have you tried just clearing the station memory? Searching on the forum for others who have had similar problems with their station suggests that might help.

I have cleared the station memory a couple of times. Can Easy Weather and Cumulus operate at the same time? They seem to not like each other? The Easy Weather data changes when I try and start Cumulus. Did you see the other files I sent when Cumulus when working properly?

Mike are you running both Easy Weather and Cumulus at the same time? You cannot run two (or more) weather software at the same time... :(

You can't have two different programs talking to the station at the same time, the station gets confused.

Yes; you had some sort of problem with your station and/or USB on Monday evening, and since then Cumulus has been getting data out of sequence.

Steve,

I was running both softwares at the same time. I did another reset on the station and now both softwares are working. I now know not to run them at the same time. Thanks for all the help.

Ah, right, that would do it :)

It's just one of those things that I take for granted; I should possibly make it clear in the documentation.

Mike glad it is up and going.

You may not know Steve is the writer of Cumulus if write is the right word. He got me pointed in the right direction more than once.

Most of these really nice folks are from out of country from our view point. All, very helpful.

Take a look in the fine offset section for some of the rain gauge mods that you might to want to consider.

Steve released a new Beta version a couple of weeks back and that was really interesting to me as each build got better and better.
