Hi There

I just set up my website using Cumulus www.waterfordcityweather.com. I want to be able to add links to my page and also a webcam. I tried to edit the index.htm file in the web folder of Cumulus but each time it returns to the same as it was before i edited it. How do i save the changes. Can someone give me a detailed guide on what i need to do??? Thanks in advance and thanks to the Cumulus developers for making such great software.

Mike

The index.htm file is recreated (i.e. overwritten) each web update by Cumulus by processing the indexT.htm file and inserting the current data. So you need to edit indexT.htm. Make sure the angle brackets in the web tags (<#blah>) don't get changed to < and > by whatever you use to edit the files.

Hi Mike,

Check the WIKI, there is plenty of info in there on how to update your webpages.

But the most important thing in there is, edit only the indexT.htm etc. (only ones with a capital T in it, these are the template files). These are the ones that get processed by Cumulus and then uploaded to your webspace as index.htm (for example).

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum,

Just to reinforce the messages above -- have a read of the Wiki (it is your friend). ;) And of course, the forum is too.

If i exactly want to add a link to the indexT.htm what do i need to do to that file??? Sorry guys if these are stupid questions but i'm new to this and learning as i go along.

Hi Mike,

OK, just to understand what's going on here, you say you made the changes and you could see them, but when you reloaded the page later you say 'website doesn't load with the latest stats when i reload'. Do you mean the actual weather data doesn't update? The timestamp on your current conditions looks OK for Ireland, so the data should be OK too.

To edit the menu options in indexT.htm, look at the bottom of the file and locate

Code: Select all

  <tr>
    <td colspan="4" class="td_navigation_bar">:<a href="index.htm">now</a>::<a href="gauges.htm">gauges</a>::<a href="today.htm">today</a>::<a href="yesterday.htm">yesterday</a>::<a href="record.htm">records</a>::<a href="trends.htm">trends</a>::<a href="https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/">forum</a>:</td>

  </tr>
Edit or add to this code for your menu requirements.

Mike,

Your weather data is definately updating, I've just been watching your page and it has updated the time and temperature in the last few minutes. I have been viewing the page at http://www.waterfordcityweather.com/ .

I'm not sure why you are not seeing any updates?

Just a daft thought, are you actually refreshing the page using F5 or CTRL F5?

I always changed back to the original indexT.htm so it was always updating, that was never the issue. The problem i had was that i made changes to the index.htm firstly then realised that these were not staying so i pasted the entire edited index.htm to the indexT.htm file which caused the page to not update. I have managed to add a link to the page next to forums so thats a start and its working. What i want to do next is make the text waterford city weather bigger and centre it. How do i do that guys???

Edit: My good wife managed to do that successfully so all is left now to do is change the background and add a webcam to the page.

I've noticed that you've entered your longitude incorrectly; you're West of Greenwich but you've used East.

As Steve has said, you need to change your longitude to W otherwise your moon and sun times amongst other things will be incorrrect.

Just noticed that guys thanks. Also have edited the site a lot since last night so it looks a lot better now. Was hoping to add realtime to it as well in the next few days. Will check out the Wiki and guides to see how i can do that. Give the updated site a check guys if you got the time.
