How is a rain season measured? I seem to recall it starts in October in the northern hemisphere, but does that mean I should zero out my totals?

As far as I know, the rain 'season' in the UK in Jan-Dec. Certainly, annual totals seem to be calculated in that way. The only country that I've been made aware of so far that doesn't use Jan-Dec is Israel, and I've said I will try to add a configurable rain season to a future version of Cumulus. At the moment there is no way to get Cumulus to display anything other than Jan-Dec for annual rain total; to do anything else you would have to process dayfile.txt yourself.

Thank you Steve. So do I understand that Cumulus will zero it's self out in January as far as rain totals go?

Yes, that is correct.
