No apparent update?

Hello's
Very simply put as I can. I noticed Cumulus didn't seem to update for a few hours so I exited the program and restarted it noticing that after todays rainfall it was still showing 0.3mm and temperature did not change from 14.5°C
Now I'm showing 162mm rainfall? How do I adjust this accurately?

It sounds like the station stopped responding, and then the rainfall counter became corrupted. You could try restarting from the latest backup from before the problem occurred (copy the files out of the appropriate backup folder into the data folder, then start Cumulus).
If you still have an incorrect rain figure, instructions for correcting it are in the FAQ:

It stated "Last data read..." was many hours ago before i restarted it and then gave that huge rainfall rate. Everything else appears to be fine
Edit: btw how do i know exactly which file to use to keep it accurate?

Hold on, I've just looked at your web site. The 162 figure you're quoting is a rate, not a total. Your total for today is 13.8 mm.
Looking at your graphs, you seem to have duplicate entries in your log files. Restarting from a backup should fix all of this.

Ooops Apologies! I was meant to state rate! My bad sorry Steve.
Could you advise on which backups I need to adjust/use and how they are to be performed as I am not fully sure how this is to be done

Cumulus takes a copy of the 'active' data files each time it starts up, and puts them in a folder whose name is a timestamp. The backup folders live in a folder called 'backup' in the Cumulus installation folder. Find the folder corresponding to the last time you started Cumulus before the problem occurred. Hopefully this is not too long ago, depending on how often you start Cumulus.
With Cumulus stopped, copy the files from the chosen backup folder into the data folder, overwriting what's there (you might want to take a copy of the current data folder before you start). There's a slight complication as it's the first of the month; if your backup is from yesterday, you will also need to delete the oct10log.txt file from the data folder. Cumulus will then recreate the file with correct data as it works its way through the logger data.

Ok I understand that part pretty well but I am curious... The problem occured today as defined here;
Code: Select all
01/10/10,13:00,14.5,84,11.8,13.1,18.3,273,3.6,0.3,1005.6,48.3,22.1,48,7.6,13.0,14.5,0.0,0
01/10/10,13:10,14.5,85,12.0,13.2,18.3,265,0.0,0.3,1005.7,48.3,22.1,48,13.0,13.0,14.5,0.0,0
01/10/10,13:20,14.5,85,12.0,13.2,18.3,265,0.0,0.3,1005.7,48.3,22.1,48,13.0,13.0,14.5,0.0,0
The only other backup before that I have is... 29 september so replace the current data with 29th sept and delete the oct10log.txt - yes?
And thank you so far for the help and guidance. I feel such an idiot not knowing!

Yes that's right. I had another look at your site and it looks OK now?

It looks more accurate based on the days events and radar overlays of the past 12hours, yes.
Is there any thing I can do to ensure no further errors such as this happen in future or is there any possible explanation to the cause from what you can see?
I truly appreciate the assistance you have provided me this evening Steve. You are a gentleman of outstanding expectations! A huge thank you to you sir!

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll have a look to see what happened. But I suspect that Windows could no longer see the station on the USB.

Windows reported that your station became unplugged:
30/09/2010 12:43:30.968 : 12:43:30 EWUSB: HidControl Device Unplug
30/09/2010 12:43:30.968 : EWUSB: HidControl Device Removal
There are a number of similar occurrences following that, but it seems to have been OK since about 11:40 yesterday.
You could check that the cables are connected properly, or perhaps try a different cable if it happens again.

Unfortunately Cumulus can't cope with the station becoming disconnected - even temporarily. I tried to cater for it some time ago, but it caused problems. Now that I have my own Fine Offset to play with, I'll have another look at it at some point.

My first Fine Offset station had a faulty USB cable - the fault was intermittent - I was getting random disconnections. Worth trying another cable.
